MR. & MRS. HOME OWNER
Do you employ a cook, cleaning woman or other
domestic worker in your home for one or more
days per week? If so, you are paying them more
than fifty dollars per quarter in wages, and you
should be withholding and paying Social Security
contributions for them. Your failure to do this
denies your employee his right to receive Social
Security benefits for themselves and their
dependents in later years. We urge you to obey the
law and help us to improve human relations in the
Augusta Area.

Annual
Piano
Music
Program
For some very lucky people,
the last Friday in July of each
year is a date to remember. On
this date each year, Mrs. Rosa
Tutt presents her piano
students in their Annual
Recital. On July 17, 1973 two
boys and sixteen girls displayed
their artistic development at
the piano and the result was a
delightful evening of music.
The performers were
Sennett Grissom, Edward
Frails, Terri Lynn Elam,
Michelle Brodie, Nanette
Barnes, Pamela Dean, Anita
Jackson, Adrienne Thomas,
Nvette Jakes, Marie
Prichardson, Cheryl Beard,
Robert Neal, Pot ice
Wimberley, Robin Neal, Serena
Williams, Cheryl Evans, Debra
Barnes and Harriett Allen,
quest performer, who is
student of Mrs. H.L. (Viola)
Evans.
These young people ranged
in age from 7 to 17. The age
range implies a corresponding
range of musical development.
The recital was musically
satisfying for the listener,
however, becuase each
performer’s selections were
tasteful and within his
technical capabilities. Mrs. Tutt
should be congratulated on the
fine performances by her
students. Biographical sketches
of the young musicians
indicated that their interests
include other academic, sports
and social activities along with
their interest in music.
Mrs. Tutt is not only
interested in the musical
development of her students,
but supports the musical and
other artistic activities of the
community at large. Augusta is
the better for having this fine
patron of the arts as a citizen.

The sorority selected the

1971-73 National Service
Project and has since donated
$7,000.00 to the home. Funds
for the home were derived
from a national raffle
conducted by he sorority.

Convention, August 12-17, in
Atlanta, Ga. responding to the
leadership and call to service
from their National President,
Mrs. Lillian P. Benbow, there
will be many powerful and
prominent members among
them.
Politicians, physicians,
scholars, human rights activists,
entertainers, students...almost
every possible profession will
be represented. From the
precocious seventeen year old
college sophomore to the
octogenarian Founders and
members, the delegates
representing 65,000 members
will hail form 455 chapters
throughout the U.S., Haiti and
Liberia. But not only are the
Deltas known for their power,
their courage and leadership in
areas of social concern are
highly acclaimed.
“Wouldn’t you know that
the first Black woman to seek
the U.S. Presidency would just
have to be a Delta?” exclaimed
one of the prideful young
members of this public service
organization last fall when
Rep. Shirley Chisholm threw
her hat in he ring, running in
12 Presidential primaries. But
Deltas seem to lean naturally
toward the political arena for
also serving in Congress are
Delta members Edith Green
(D., Oreg.) and Barbara Jordan
(D., Tex.), who is chairman of
Delta’s National Finance
Committee and one of the
convention speakers. More
than 200 other Deltas who
hold elected or appointed
offices at the state and local
levels will be in attendance.
Among the hostess chapter
Deltas preparing to greet the
delegates are Emma Darnell,
Intergovernmental Programs
Coordinator and Assistant to
Atlanta Mayor Sam Massell,
and Burnella (Bunny) Jackson,
Delta’s National Projects
Commission Chairman and
wife of Atlanta’s Vice Mayor
Maynard Jackson. Joan Green,
another Atlanta Delta, and the
Women’s Bureau’s Director of
the Southern Region, is one of
the program participants.

embryologist and Dr. Jeanne L.
Noble, Professor at New York
University.
Actress Ruby Dee and poet
Nikki Giovanni will be initiated
into Delta at this convention.
Mrs. Lynnette Taylor,
Executive Director of the
sorority finds coordinating this
convention a tremendously
significant challenge. “Not
only will this be the largest
convention of all the fraternal
groups in terms of registered
delegates,” she reports, “but
the response from government
and business and the potential
impact of the agenda are
overwhelming. This will be a
working convention and more
than sixty major corporations

accepted Delta’s invitation to
participate.
“An actual Career

“We will pay special tribut

she added. |
“To bring all of this into
focus,” continued Mrs. Taylor, I
“throughout the convention
we will be giving indepth
attention to legislative matters
