Zeta Phi Beta Sorority was
highly elated that its basileus,
Mrs. Earl Lawton, was
appointed by the City Council
in a meeting on October 15 to
serve on the Human Relations
Commission for a three-year
term beginning October 18,
1973.
Mrs. Lawton is employed as
a librarian at A.R. Johnson
Junior High School. She is

The United Nations Children’s
Fund, through Jack & Jill.
According to a chapter
spokesman, these contributions
will be used to provide aid in
many forms to developing
countries. Some of these aids
are: pumps and pipes for new i
wells in Bangladesh; vaccine
and medicine to stop diseases
like TB and smallpox in
Malawi; school supplies and
equipment in Thailand; seeds
and tools to grow vegetables in
Brazil as well as mnay other

Nutcracker Set
For Nov. 16,
17, 18
The NUTCRACKER, that
happiest of all Christmas
ballets, will be presented by
the Augusta Civic Ballet
Company in evening
performances November 15
and 16 and in matinees
performances on November 17
and 18. The stage of the Bell
Auditorium Music Hall will be
turned into a fairyland with
marching toy soldiers, dancing
snowflakes, twirling candy
canes and waltzing flowers
when a little girl named Mary is
whisked off to “The Land of
Sweets” to meet the beautiful
Sugar Plum Fairy and all her
colorful friends.
The Augusta Civic Ballet
Company forms the nucleus
for the large cast of
eighty-seven characters in this
yuletide classic. This elaborate
production is being augmented
by guest dancers from the
Atlanta Ballet Company. Anne
Burton, Atlanta’s famed
ballerina, will appear as the
Sugar Plum Fairy; and other
Atlanta dancers, including
Director Robert Barnett, will
appear in selected solo
variations and male roles.
Spectacular costumes and
scenery will add to the
enchantment.
Tickets are available now
through November 9, from 1-6
p.m., at the Civic Ballet
School, 2941 Walton Way; and
at the Bell Auditorium Box
Office from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.,
November 12 - 18.
