WOMAN SHOT FOR SlO 00
John Milles has been arrested
for assault with intent to
murder.
Mrs. Rodia Smith stated that
she had to take her daughter
Mildred Green to the hospital
after John Milles had shot her in
the chest. She said that her
daughter and John were fussing
early Sunday morning when
"John shot her.
Officers went to the
University Hospital to talk
w ith Miss Green. She told them
that John had given her SIO.OO
to go with him that night but
she did not want to go because
he had been drinking too
much. When she said no John
wanted his SIO 00 back but
she refused to give it to him
because he owed it to her
anyway John then pulled out
a 22 pistol, loaded it and fired
at her hitting her in the chest.
Mrs. Green then went into the
house, got her pistol and shot
at John four or five times.
AGGRAVATED ASSAULT
Last Thursday, Soloman L.
Johnson 111 was charged with
aggravated assault with intent
to murder.
Mrs Gertrude Johnson
stated that her son Soloman
entered the house under the
heavy influence of liquor,
pulled a gun and fired twice.
The gun was taken away from
him by James R Porter, and
Soloman ran north thru the
woods. A search of the area
revealed nothing. No one was
hurt.

MAN CHARGED WITH
BURGLARY AND
INDECENT EXPOSURE
At about 7:40 p.m. last July
7, Martha Scott was in her
bedroom sleeping when she
awoke to find a man standing
over her in her bedroom. She
stated that the man was
exposing himself. When she
began to scream, the man put
his hands to his lips, motioning
her to keep quiet. But she
wouldn’t and the man ran out
of the house through the back
door.
Miss Scott told police that
she had seen the man several
times walking the street in her
neighborhood and that she
could identify him if she saw
him again.
She spotted the man walking
on Grand Blvd, and called the
police. The man was pointed
out by Miss Scott at Grand
Blvd, and Kent St. where he
was arrested on warrants.

found guilty of armed robbery. They will be sentenced later.

Glenn Harris, guilty of burglary and 2 counts aggravated assault, to be

Augusta Police
Seeking
Applicants
The Augusta Police
Department will be recruiting
applicants this weekend at the
Wallace Branch Library.
Lt. Hansel Johnson said he
will be screening applicants at
the Wallace Branch of the
Augusta Library at 1237
Gwinnett St., on Friday from
2-6 p.m. and Saturday from 9
a.m. to 1 p.m.
He said the recruitment
sessions are primarily aimed at
Blacks and minorities, but that
all persons “truly interested in
a career in law enforcement”
are welcome to apply.
Applicants must be 20 years
old, have a high school diploma
or General Education
Development certificate.
He said applicants should
bring duplicates of all
documents. They must have no
physical disabilities and if they
have served in the armed forces
they must have an honorable
discharge.
Also applicants need a valid
drivers license from any state
and must reside within 45
miles of police headquarters on
Fourth Street, he said.

SUSPECTED OF CATTLE
RUSTLING
On July 12, Smith and some
others were apprehended on
suspicion of cattle rustling.
They were apprehended in the
process of butchering a cow
alongside the Bath Edie Road
last Saturday night. Police had
to give chase to Smith before
he was caught and upon
returning to the car found
some of the cow in the back
seat of the vehicle
