well in every particular.
Bryan and Stevenson!
Bryan by acclamation, and Steven
son an easy winner on the first ballot.
The ticket is a splendid one, and the
Democratic hosts will do their utmost
to make it a winner. -
Bryan has won and maintained a won
derful hold on the aflections of the
American people. They know him to
be honest and fearless, and fully alive
to their interests. Every mention of
his name in the convention evoked the
most tnmultons and enthusiastic ap
plause.
Next to Bryan the Democrat most
popular with the convention delegates
was ex-Senator David B. Hill, of New
York, and that distinguished Democrat
could have had the nomination for Vice-
President if he had been willing to take
it. He declined the honor, however,
and it went to Hon. Adlai E. Steven
son, of Illinois, who served as Vice-
President with President Cleveland and
ism, together with the fact that the
money question has been virtnally set
tled for the next few years, has reunited
the Democracy of the country, and there
is bright prospect for Democratic suc
cess in November.

As the blood contains all the elements necessary to sustain life, it is impor
tant that it be kept free of all impurities, or it becomes a source of disease,
poisoning instead of nourishing the Ixxly, and loss of health is sure to follow.
Some poisons enter the blood from without, through the skin by absorption, or
inoculation ; others from within, a-? when waste products accumulate in the .
system and ferment, allowing disease germs to develop and be taken into the
circulation. While all blood troubles have one common origin, each has some
peculiarity to distinguish it from the other. Contagious Blood Poison, Scrofulas ^ m m mas

a certain sore, ulcer, eruption or inflammation appearing on the skin. Every blood
disease shows sooner or later on the outside and on the weakest part of the ibody, or where it finds the least resistance.
Many mistake the sore or outward sign ’ for the real disease, and attempt a cure by the use of salves, liniments and other
external applications. Valuable time is lost and no permanent benefit derived fronnsacli treatment.
BLOOD TROUBLES REQUIRE BLOOD REMEDIES; tiiei poison must be completely and perma
nently eradicated—the blood reinforced, purified and cleansed, or the disease goes deeper and saps the very life. Mercury,

citizens have fled from in Europe.
Private monopolies are designated as
indefensible and intolerable, as they
destroy competition, control the price
of all material and of the finished pro
duct, thus robbing both producer and
consumer; and lessen the employment
of labor and arbitrarily fix the terms
thereof, and deprive individual energy
and small capital of their opportunity
for betterment.
The principles of tne National Demo
cratic platform adopted at Chicago in
1890 are re-affirmed and indorsed, and
the demand of that platform for an
American financial system made by the
American people themselves, who shall
restore and maintain a bimetallic price
level, and as part of such system the
immediate restoration of the free and
nnlimited coinage of gold and silver at
the present legal ratio of 16 to 1 with
out waiting for the aid or consent of
any other nation, is reiterated.

OBITUARY.
The solemn notes that betoken the
dissolution of this earthly tabernacle
have again alarmed our outer door, and
another spirit has been summoned to
the land where many of onr loved odes
have gone before us.
On the night of Jnne 2otb, 1900, the
spirit of David C. Randall crossed over
the mystic river and joined on the other
side with the saints and glorified ones
of earth, leaving behind him a glorious
record of a short hut well spent life.
Though he was member of no church
ho left a blessed assurance to his friends
and loved ones that he was going
“where all was beantiful.”
I only knew the snbject of this
sketch quite two years, but during that
time I was in his society a good deal,
and certainly never met a more pious,
qniet nor manly young man. He never
spoke harshly of even his enemies, and
was always in sympathy with the poor
and needy. I also introduced . to him
the beantifnl girl who now monrns the
loss of a husband, dearer to her than
all earthly things. Their courtship and
married life was as she told me only a
few days since, “short but very sweet.
It seems hard that two so well suited
should be parted in so Short a while, bat,
dear Essie, “God knoweth best,” and
yonr loss is heaven’s gain.
Being the baby of fonr boys, and the
first to be called from the family circle
by onr Father, his parents are almost
crashed to the earth with sorrow. Dear
ones, the best I can do is to recommend
you to God and the word of His grace,
which is able to keep yon and give an
inheritance among those who are sanc
tified through faith in Jesns Christ.
Sorrowfully, L. J. H.

From Sylvan Valiev News, Brevard, N. C.
It may be a question whether Hie ed
