Grand Jury took a recess Fri day until next Monday, when they will resume business now unfinished be fore that body. The Grand Jury last week selected Squire J. A. Wilson as Notary Public and ex-Offlclo Justice of the Peace for the Cedartown district, as his own successor. Sheriff J. E. Dempsey has eleven county prisoners, but it is expected that the two weeks of the criminal court will dispose of several of these occupants of the Bast lie. Solicitor General Fielder has about six capital offenses to try at this term of court, besides many felonies for different off uses. He will be kept busy on these cases for the full time of court, If they should all he tried at this term. JUDGE JANES WINS III Dig Case in Secure Pay for Span ish* American War Veterans. Judge C. G. Junes, who w'as appoint ed by Gorvamor Tarrell as special at torney for the state to secure the ar rearages of pay due by the United Stated government for Georgia's vet erans of the Spanish-American war. bus finally carried the case to a suc cessful issue. The claim was for pay while the boys were jn camp be fore being sworn. Into service, and payment was long refused on the ground that service had not actually begun. A few weeks ago the Govern ment offered Judge Janes a compro mise, but ho felt that the boys were entitled to all the amount asked and so refused it. The wisdom of his course Is now apparent, and he has received notice that the entire amount —$30,000—will be paid In full. This is good n-ws not only to Judge Janes but to the soldier boys all over the state, and the Judge is receiving hearty congratulations on his hard- earned victory.
