MovemPHt to Arouse Business Men and People in Cause of Education In Georgia. Chairman 8. M. Inman, of the Georgia Educational Committee, which met at Plnehurst. N. C., with the Southern Educational Board, announc the appointment, of Hixty prominent Georgians who will hold an ed ucational conference in Atlanta on May 24. The meetings of the conference will be held in the Senate chamber, and its object will be to discuss ed ucational conditions in the state and to devise plans for their betterment. It is designed to stir up the interest of the business men of Georgia in ed ucation and the conference will aim at this end. It is expected this con ference of business men will lie fol lowed in July at some date during the session of the Legislature by a grand educational rally to be held in At lanta, to which will come representa tives from every county in the state. Those appointed from the state at large are S. B. Adams of Savannah, Sonator A. S. Clay of Marietta, G. Gunby Jordan of Columbus, ex-Gov. H. D. McDaniel of Monroe, B. P. O’Neal of Macon and former Gov. W. J. Northen of Atlantu. Those from the Seventh Con gressional district are J. J. Conner of Cartersvllle, W. 8. Coleman of Cedar- town, B. I. Hughes of Rome, and P. INSTITUTE POSTPONED. On account of the absence this week of County School Commissioner .1. E. jovvorn and Superintendent W. T. Garrett, the Teachers' Institute will be postponed from next Saturday for one week. It will be held in Rock- mart on Saturday, May 4th. England was honored by election last week by the Georgia Medical Association as one of the vice presidents of the Anti-Tuber culosis League. This Is a very im portant organization destined to play n useful part In combatting the dread disease of consumption. “The Cedartown Standard, one of the best weeklies in the South,’’ is the highly complimentary manner in which the Atlanta Georgian refers to this paper. And coming from the Georgian—one of the best edited and most progressive dailies in the country—this compliment is especially appreciated. In the Atlanta Journal’s "James town Contest’’ two Cedartown rep resentatives have been fortunate e- nough to win nominations from the Seventh district:—Miss Callie Byrd us one of the teachers, and Clarence Chapman for the school hoys’ trip. The final content closes May 26th,and it is hoped that they will then both win the free trip to the Jamestown Exposition offered by the Journal. The Farmers’ Union is going about its business in a quiet but business like way, and is establishing all over the South a system of warehouses to handle the products of the farmers. All classes are invited to patronize these warehouses, and already Texas has 250, Alabama over 100, with a- bout 30 in Georgia, and more in con struction all over the country. This looks to us like accomplishing some thing, i:: a practical way. Institute have decided that in order to successfully accomplish the work and to meet the demands made upon said Institute, It is necessary to Im prove and enlarge present buildings, and to erect new buildings, and In order to do so, it will be necessary to supplement the donations and fund of the Institute by borrowing, and In order to borrow money it is nec essary that said Institute be legally authorized to execute and deliver all necessary contracts and conveyances, hich *111 bind the Institute and its property for the payment of such loan or loans of money ns it may deem necessary and obtain for the use and for any purpose. Wherefore, petitioners pray that the charter of said Piedmont Metho dist Institute be so amended as to authorize and empower said Institute, acting through its Board of Trustees, to borrow such sum or sums of money nay be deemed advisable or nec essary for tho purpose of enlarging and improving its present buildings and for the erection of such new build ings as said Board of Trustees may authorize at any time, and from time to time, and consider necessary and proper for the successful operation and management of the affairs of said Institute, and to bind the Insti tute and all Its property, or any part thereof, by contract for the payment of its obligations. That said Institute Le authorized and empowered to issue bondA in such, denominations, and for such an a-' mount, and from time to time, as tho Board of Trustees may consider necessary and for the best interest of the Institute, and that the Trustees of said Institute have authority to negotiate, sell and dlsjjose of said bonds as they may deem advisable aud for the best interest of the Institute, I and to do any other act, acts or things, considered necessary to promote the work and best interests of said Insti tution, and not contrary to law. Petitioners further pray that the charter of the Piedmont Methodist In stitute, as amended, be continued and extended for an additional period or twenty years, with all the rights and powers granted and usually vested by law in such corporations. The school at this place closed Fri day with several recitations. The pat rons all came out and were well pleased with the closing exercises and the good work that has been done during the term. Mr. Everett Hamrick, Mr. Beverly McKinney and Miss Lucy Parris, from Fish, made a flying trip to this place Friday. A large crowd from this place at tended the concert at Fish Friday night, and report one of the most intertaining concerts ever held there. Miss Minnie Elliott is visiting rel atives at this place. r. J. O. Alexander, Misses Pearl and Emma Kirk visited relatives in Rockmart Sunday. Miss Lucy Parris returned to her home at this place Saturday after a five months stay at Fish. Miss Leola Parris, of Atlanta, is visiting home folks here. Col. J. E.
