Lee was a most gratifying suc cess. The crowd was large, the be havior good, and the song service In teresting and impressive. And the dinner—well, it was Just all that heart could desire, an abundance of all that w as good.but that was no sur prise; for the good people of that neighborhood do nothing by halves. Uy special request your correspondent made a short talk on the enemies to our peace and happiness, to-wlt:-- “Selfishness. envy, malice and tat tling.” These may be overcome by making our every life a continuous song of right-living, kind words and boble deeds. At 4 o'clock, after a moat interesting and enjoyable ser vice, Kev. David Turner pronounced the benediction, and everybody went away happy. Miss Annie Jones, one of our most popular young ladles, visited friends at Silver Creek Saturday and Sunday. Rev. J. E. Smith preached a very interesting and able sermon to a large congregation at Collard Valley church Sunday. Mrs. C. R. Summers, of Little Rock, Ark., is visiting relatives and friends here. She is a daughter of Mrs. M. A. Kerr. Miss Minnie Tomlinson, of Atlanta, visited the family of Mr. G. H. Peek last week. Mr. and Mr*. J. M. Pullen and their daughter. Miss Dosle. visited relatives here Sunday. Rev. M. H. Peeples has been elected pastor of Pleasant Valley church, and will preach every second Sunday in each month. The Farmers Club met at the Acad emy last Saturday evening, and In the absence of Mr. G. H. Peek. Mr. Philip Gatewood presided. Many mat ters of Importance were discussed.antl crop inspector. Formby. submitted an interesting report, which showed an improvement in the condition of both cotton and corn crops over last week, and complimented Mr. J. A. Greer, whose crop was the best he had ex amined. Rev. James Thomas, formerly a citizen of Seney. but now of Section. Ala., is visiting relatives and friends here this week. Johnson Hatch spent Saturday and Sunday very pleasantly with his par ents near Young’s W. M. C. PRE-NUPTIAL ENTERTAINMENTS. The approaching marriage of MIbk Della Harris to Prof. W. T. Garrett has been the occasion of many pleas ing social functions. Monday evening Mrs. Estelle Hardwick entertained the bridal party at her beaut.ful suburban home, serving ices and punch. Tues day an elegant six-o'clock dinner was given by Mrs. F. 8. Bunn to the bride* to-be and her maids of honor. Tuesday evening Mr. and Mrs. S. P. Holloway entertained the bridal party, serving delightful refreshments and at which an enjoyable time was had. Friday evening a tempting barbecue will be served the party by Dr. ii. M. Hall and Messrs. M. O. Gulss and E. E. Lindsey at Dr. Liddell’s spring. The wedding will occur next Wed nesday at the Presbyterian church, the ceremony being performed by Rev. Geo. E. Benedict at f>.20 o’clock. Mrs. W. J. Harris will be matron of honor, and Miss Elizabeth Harris maid of honor, and Miss Agnes Harris, of Rome, and Mrs. Estelle Hardwick bridesmaids. Dr. II. M. Hall Is to be best man, and Oapt. P. C. Harris and Messrs. W. J. Harris. A. W. Birkbeck, W. S. Cole man, S. P. Holloway, M. 0. Gulss and E. E. Lindsey attendants and ushers. Mrs. B. F. Sims will render the wedding march, and Immediately after the ceremooy the bridal party will repair to the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Harris. The couple will leave on the 7:42 Seaboard train for Mt. Airy and Tallulah Falls. THEY’RE HOME AGAIN. The Cedartown Rifles arrived home Sunday after a highly enjoyable week’s outing at the Jamestown Exposition. The boys were delighted with their trip, and have many interesting ex periences to relate. Besides taking in the Exposition a number of them improved the opportunity to visit the National Capital. We are glad the boys hud a good time, for there are two organizations that always deserve it—the military company and the fire department,— and Cedartown has the best of both. Waddey and Miss Clara Whitaker, and little Misses Mary Wood and Gladys Russell pre sided at the punch bowl. The occasion was a Jolly one for the young folks. Mr. Reeves was born In Alabama forty-one year.; ago on the 11th Inst., and came to Polk county with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Reeves when only a sma’l child. He was united In marriage Nov. 110th, 1877, with Mias Laura Locke, who with eight children- five girls and three boys, the youngest only seven months old,—-survives him. One little one died about a month ago. Three years ago Mr. Reeves enter ed the race for County Treasurer, to which he was elected by a good ma jority; and fo well did he perform the duties of the office that he was re-elected last year without any op position whatever. Mr. Reeves was a loyal member of the Baptist church, and his pastor, Dr. C. K. Henderson, conducted funer al services Tuesday morning at the residence in Eastvlew, assisted by Rev. H. M. Qullllan. His fellow county of ficers acted as the pa'l-bearers.aml the services were largely attended. A sterling citizen and capable county, official has been taken from us. The bertaved family have the sympathy of e entire county. AN 1.NJ0Y A RLE PARTY. Mrs. O. Willingham entertained the Young Matrons' Club and a number of lady friends very pleasantly yes terday afternoon at her hospitable home on Stubbs street. Mesdames Marie Ford and M. D. Russell wel comed the guests at the door, and the ho tels was assisted i:i entertaining by Mesdames J. H. Sanders, J. M. Morris, W. S. Coleman, M, C. Bobo and E. S. Ault. A dainty salad course was served In the dining room, where Misses Myrta Dodds and An nie Lee Sewell presided, and Mrs. E. Benton and Miss Adele Waddell served the punch. The dining ro< in was beautifully decorated with Mareschal Nell roses and sweet peas, and the other rooms were profusely adorned with daises. LOST! He is one of Polk’s cleverest and most reliable young men. Tax Receiver M. E. McCormick asks us to call attention to the fact that the county tax books close Saturday, and that a great number have not given in their returns as yet. This reminder should be sufficient to bring them in with a rush. Mr. Thos. F. Thompson has resigned his position with the Centrul Railway, and left Tuesday wi h his wife for trip to the Jamestown Exposition, going via Savannah and the ocean route.
