Gilson 1ms purchased from tne Cedar town Company a two- acre tract south of the city limit and on the west side of Main street oppo site the property of Mrs. Ivy Thomp son. on which he will soon erect a handsome residence. The site is on the point of the ele vation west of Main street and com mands a splendid view. It Is one of the most desirable locations around Cedartown for a home, and Mr. Gib son has securid a highly desirable property. The house is to be a two- story, nine-room building, with water, lights and all modern conveniences, costing something like $10,000,and will be occupied by the families of Messrs. \V. T. Gibson and E. C. Benton. Co. MRS. BREWSTER ENTERTAINS. An enjoyable card party was given yesterday morning by Mrs. Albert C. Brewster at 10 o'clock at her home on College street, to which a number of ladies were invited. Sl-hand eu chre was played, and the first prize— a beautiful belt buckle—was won in the cut by Miss Pauline Chapman, the second prise— a lovely ladles’ hand kerchief—going to Mrs. A. W. Evans in the cut. A delicious salad course ' with Ice tea was served, the punch being dis pensed by Misses Pauline Phillips and Ellen Hand. The hospitable hostess was assisted in entertaining by Mrs, P. C. Harris, the ladles greatly en joying the party. FIRE COMPANY OFFICERS. Hon. Chns. Adamson, thi president of the Cedurtown Company. Is here from Philadelphia this week, and has accepted this generous gift to our people in behnlf of his com pany, and in the same spirit of liber ality in which it wasgiven by Capt Peel: will undeitake its maintenance as a public park, so that our people not only get a valuable gift of land but are at the same time relieved of the expense of maintaining it. In other words, they will have nothing to do but enjoy it. When College and Main streets are extended to this property, streets will also be opened on the north and south sides, making nice sixty-foot streets all around the park. The beautiful forest trees which abound in this tract, and the topography of the laud giv ing perfect natural drainage, make this an ideal park, and Its convenient proximity to town leaves nothing to be desired in the way of location for a big playground for the children and a resort for rest andpleasure for our people generally. Ha: dwick, the brilliant young Congressman from the Tenth who is the orator for the Fourth of July celebration today, arrived in the city yesterday morning, and is the guest while here of his State Univer sity classmate, Mr. J. V. Stubbs. The Cherokee Driving Club gave a splen did barbecue yesterday in his honor at Dr. Liddell’s fishpond, which was greatly enjoyed. Mr. S. P. Holloway entertained him at a pleasant stag party last evening. Mi s Kittle Bunn was the charm ing hostess Thursday evening at a party given in honor of her attractive guest, Miss Effie Hill of Washington, at the hospitable home of her father, Hon. V/. C.
