Camp the most prominent citizen was shot by his 15 year Id i this afternoon. Cedartown lovers of the great nation al game have an opportunity to see some fine sport right now The team of the Southern States Electric Co. came up yesterday morn ing from Atlanta, and played a lively game with our local team in the after noon. The visitors have some fine players well known here—Bob Lawslr, Sam Woodward and our own Geo. S. Wood. Cedartown also has a strong team—one that we can be proud of. It is up to some of our citizens who .have land or mom y or both, t> build re homes—good on* 8— at one. There Is good money in it as an invest meat, at the present increased cost of building. Get busy, good people, for something must be done by somebody, on this line at once, and there Is no prospect of the good work being over done. There Is some complaint once in a bile of excessive rentals being charged, but we are glad to say that very few of our property owners have taken advantage of the situation by asking exorbitant rents. It costa more to build a house now than It ever did before, and naturally rents have gone up in Cedartown and everywhere else. Property owners will find It to their interest In the long run to ask only a reasonable return on the money invested. Ever since the Central Railway an nounced its intention of locating the shops here, The Standard has been urging our people to build more houses to supply the inevitable de mand. Scores of them have been built, and every one of them has been rent ed as soon as completed. Good four to six room cottages, with modern con veniences, are still very badly needed, and v. Ill prove money-makers for the men enterprising enough to build them. • • The machinists brought here by the Central are a line lot of men, all of them earning good wages, and every one of them willing to pay a fair price for a good house in which to live. Cedartown appreciates their presence here, and we are satisfied j will now make an extra effort to pro vide for the'.r accommodation. Many new houses have been put up in the last few months, hut as many more are needed If the Central shop work is not to be retarded and Cedartown, badly crippled. * Another thing as badl>» needed ns more houses Is good boarding places. Bradford is attending the 7th District Meeting of the Farmers’ Union in Calhoun,as the delegate from the Cedartown local union. AN ELECTRIC STORM. Messrs. E. O. Godwin and J. P. San ders have been repreeenting the Polk Circuit at the Methodist District Con ference in Rockmart this week. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Stephenson have returned to Carrollton, Mr. Stephenson having sold his interest in the ice cream parlor to Mr. G. E. Dozier. Mr. and Mrs. W.J. O’Neill,of Siloam, spent Tuesday here with their par ents, Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Pierce, en route to their future home in Birm ingham. Mrs. J. W. Akers, who has been the guest of her daughter, Mrs. W. K. Holmes, returned Tuesday to Atlanta. Her little granddaughter, Majorle Holmes, accompanied her for a visit ' several weeks. The Cedartown Company has com menced work on a large brick build ing Warehouse street, to take the place of the old blacksmith shop of Mr. R. D. Trammell and to be occu pied by that gentleman as a blacksmith and wood-working establishment. Misses Mattie Peek and Josephine Clfapman gave a delightful party last Wednesday evening to Miss Effle Hill at the beautiful suburban home of Capt. J. A. Peek, to which a number of young folks were invited. Deli- licious cream, cake and punch con- sltuted the refreshments, which were served by Mrs. W. A. Chapman, who was asslstd by Miss Helen Good and Mr. Felix Bowman. The affair was a thoroughly enjoyable one. Mrs. E.. B.. Russell was the hostess Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons for parties of ladies, six-handed euchre furnishing the diversion. On Tuesday the winner of the first prize, an art vase, was Miss Kate Booz, and Mrs. J. Wright Adamson won the con solation prize in the cut, a Swastika pin. Yesterday the guest’s prize, a cup and saucer, was given the guest of honor, Mrs. A. Willis Evans of Sandersville. Mrs. P. C. Harris won the first prize, a Japanese vase, and Mrs.A.. W. Birkbeck the consolation prize, a brass picture frame. A fierce electric tOOfm visited Ce dartown Tuesday afternoon, and did considerable damage. The bbttfce belonging to Mrs. G. E. Benedict on Herbert street and occu pied by Mr. W. W. Turner, waa struck by lightning. The family was budly shocked, but no serious damage was done. Tbe Episcopal Rectory on College street, occupied by Col. J. M. Hunt, had a couple of reel of roofing taken out l.y a lightning bolt. Lightning struck the Weal End Bap tist church, sStUttg It on fire, and the roof was •off. A <chianvfcy of l)r. D. M. Russell’s boast wans blown down, and crashed through the kitchen roof.. The colored Baptist church on Cedar Hill was blown down. A great deal of damage was done to growing crops, but the storm was fortunately of limited extent.
