Nunn, of Cedartown, spent Sunday and Monday with the family of Mr. W. 10. Col quitt. Mr. Jud Fricks, of Walnut Grove, Ala., is visiting relativis here this week. Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Porter visited relatives at Lake Creek Sunday. The Ice cream supper at Mr. J. T. Garrard’s. Saturday night was greatly en j joyed by all. The Farmers’ Club held a very In teresting meeting last Saturday. After discussing matters of general Interest, Mr. J. A. Greer, who exhibited the first cotton bloom of the season, re ceived a vote of thanks. Rev. H. H. Popham and Mr. J. H. Pilgrim attended the General Meeting at Aragon Friday, Saturday and Sun day. Mr. Joe Gatewood came over from Rome Saturday to he with relatives and friends. Saturdays will he regular mill days at Byrd hereafter, and the mill will not run Wednesday as heretofore. BROWNWGS BUDGET. | On Saturday last the death angel visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bob | Sproull and broke their happy circle by taking from them their sweet little son, Willie Jay. His sickness was only eight hours. Everything that was In the power of earthly hands was done, but alns, the time had come, and at nine o’clock tho lovely little spirit took Its flight to a better land. A large concourse of relatives and friends accompanied the heart-broken parents to Maple Springs church Sunday, and after ser vices the body was tenderly placed in its earthly mound. Misses Nellie and Stella Parris were the guests of Misses Vera and Unle Lester Sunday. Miss Pearl and Mr. Hermon Alex ander attended the singing at Fair- view Sunday. Mrs. C. M. Swinney Is much grieved over the sad news of her father, Mr. Christopher, being bitten by a mad- dog. He Is now under the treatment of learned doctors in Atlanta, and we hope Ills case will not prove serious. LIGHTNING / KILLS .OXEN. Last Friday Messrs. Ivy Wright and Wes Swan, while on their way to Rockmart with several thousand feet of lumber, from Tom White’s Saw mill, were caught in a thunderstorm near the home of Mr. Bat Hutchings, three miles from town. They stopped their teams and went In the cotton house for protection. While sitting In the door, lightning struck the house and tore the whole top Into splinters, ran down the door facing where Mr. Wright had his foot propped, knocked an ankle out of joint and shocked him until he was unconscious. It knocked Swan across the room, bruising him very badly. Then It jumped from them to the chain of oxen and killed four and shocked the other four to the ground. The loss of oxen falls on Mr. T.H.
