Callahan and their daughter, Miss Beatrice, will leave Friday on a visit to relatives near Birmingham. They will return on the 26th inst. Mrs. Helen Lumpkin, an aged ai’d very worthy lady of Atlanta, is vis iting the family of Mr. Tom Peek this we^k. Mr. W.J. Cox, who was dangerously ill la3t Friday, is we are glad to e Improving. The Farmers' Club held a most in teresting meeting Saturday. After a lengthly discussion, a resolution was adopted advising farmers everywhere to tie their corn fodder with cotton strings, as it would increase the de mand for the great staple and thereby raise the price. Mr. W. T. Formby, who opposed the resolution, offered the following amendment: “Resolved, that we congratulate the country and the world at large upon the wonderful increase In the arrival of those dear little creatures known as babies, as every arrival adds to the demand for cotton goods.” A big laugh followed, and the resolution was lost. Grover Jones spent several days last week with home folks. The protracted meeting at Pleasant Hope will begin on Friday before the first Sunday in August. Rev. W. E. Dawn,of Dalton, will assist the pastor, Rev. J. E. Smith. Mrs. W. M.. Callahan visited the family of Mr. W. J. Walker in Van’s Valley last Thursday. W. M. C. Thursday evening Misses Ii Dempsey and Linnle Smith entertained very pleasantly some fifty of their young friends at a lawn party at the residence of the former on North Col lege street. The guests of honor were Misses Pauline Collins, of Acworth, and Marguerite Carter of Atlanta. The lawn and veranda were beautifully dec orated with .tapansce lanterns, riowers and ferns. The game "progressive love making" was one of the amuBlng feat ures of the evening, which was greatly enjoyed by the guests. Mr. Joe Lid dell proved the winner of the first prize, a Swastika stick pin, for being the most successful love maker, and which he presented to one of the guests of honor, Miss Collins. Mr. Charlie Wright after a great effort succeeded In carrying off the booby prize, a bottle of "ketchup.” During the evening Ices and cakes were served while Misses Ivylyn Smith and Sarah Mae Ford dispensed the delicious fruit punch in a graceful manner. The Polk County Singing Conven tion will be held at the church at Lake Creek, about five miles north of Ce dartown on the Central road, oa the fourth Saturday and Sunday in Ju'y, the 27th and 28th.
