These gentlemen went down yester day, and are mixing with the dis tinguished visitors from every part of the state. Were it Impossible to speak any thing but the truth we would have few friends. And now Wvo are to have a state and county tax of five mills the largest Georgia has had for five years. Out of 132 Georgia counties which had sent in their t.ix returns last week, Polk was one of the 33 which showed over a quart* of a million dollars Increase. ’Rah for old Polk! Owing to the fact that Polk county has bo many roads and Buch limited equipment, the County Commissioners passed a resolution Monday to the effect that no more new roads will be granted until the present highways are well worked. On account of the high bids for building the wall usked by the Daughters of the Confederacy, the Commissioners deferred action for the present. The Bremen Gateway has the fol lowing to say of the address of Hon. G. It. Hutchens at the Confederate veterans' reunion at Bremen last week: “In the aflernoon Col. G. R. llutcheas of Cedartown, formerly of Haralson county, was introduced, and the speech he delivered was charac teristic of the man. Beautiful and touching were his remarks, breathing tlic very spirit of patriotism and love for home and country." A delightful affair of the week was the reception at which Miss Gussie Adams entertained on Tnursday even ing, in honor of Misses Em Mae Tate and Maybelle Jones. The spacious lawn was made attractive by seats and hammocks scattered about the grounds, and an elaborate decoration of Japanese lanterns. Little Misses Mary Wood. Clyde Dodds, and Gladys Russell dispensed delicious refresh ments in the dining room,where there was a decoration of red roses. Others assisting in the entertainment of the guests were: Mesdanus E.
