Lovvorn selected this popular r sort ns the place for holding the August educat ional rally, and there was a large crowd in attendance. The Youngs. Antioch, Fish, Brown ings and Huluirlee schools united in this rally, and bright young represc n- tatlves from each of these school par ticipated ia the exercises. The pro gram was presented beneath the shade of the towering trees, and Mr. M. Y. B. Ake, chairman of the County Board of Education, and Commissioner Lov vorn presided. Interesting addresses were made by Rev. J. T. Gibson, Col. J. Mallory Hunt and Editor 12. B. Russell, all of them urging the importance of adopt ing local taxation to supplement, the state fund for the maintenance of the country schools, as the towns and cities have generally done for a long time. The dinner was spread upon the rocks beneath the sylvan shades, and was one of those bountiful leasts which the good ladles of Polk know so well how to prepare. And it big crowd that, partook of the big din ners, and none went away hungry- the splendid housewives of this sec tion never allow anything like that to happen. It was gratifying that Hon. R. W. Everett was able to attend this oc casion, though confined to his in valid chair from the effects of his re cent stroke of paralysis, and he re ceived cordial greeting and lienriy sympathy. These educational rullhs are u good thing for our people. It brings them closer together, and gives them a more lively interest in tne most vi tal question of our day—the education of the masses. The matter of local taxation for public school purposes Is receiving the serious consideration of the people of, Polk, and we hope to see the time come when this county- the best of its size in Georgin -will full Into line with other progressive counties In adopting this method. It. is a success wherever tried, and Polk is never a laggard when it comes to adopting progressive measures. BAPTIST GENERAL MEETING.
