Witt, who has been vis iting her son, Mr. J. D. Witt, returned Sunday to Chattanooga. Mrs. Emmie Ballew arrived home Saturday evening after an absence of several weeks on a visit in Atlanta and a trip to Boston, Mass. Miss Catherine Turner, who has been spending the summer with rela tives here, left yesterday for Rome en route to her brothers in Little Rock, Ark. Why not brighten up that hall or bed room a bit? Prof. Purks expresses himself as much gratified at the excellent school spirit manifested. The Standard is especially glad to note that the liter ary work is to be continued, as this is one of the most practically use ful and far-reaching features of school life. The Senior Class is an unusually large one this year, and they have per fected an organization of their own, as follows: President- Fred Lolo. Vice President- John Hightower. Secretary Waller Booz. Treasurer Harold Hutchens. The School Board held its monthly meeting last Thursday, and adopted the following wise regulation as to en trance of pupils:- ‘‘Children who cannot be graded will not be allow* d to enter except during the first, month of the school year. Those under six years of age may enter at the beginning of the term if they will become 0 before the 1st of January following.” All children above the first grade, of course,can be classified by examination on entrance. First grade pupils can only be received without examina tion during the first four weeks of the school year. In its desire to give Eastview rep resentation on the Board, that body overlooked one of its own regulations, now embodied in the school charter, to the effect that there must be no kinship between members of the Board hereafter chosen and members o f ti e faculty. They elected Mr. S. F. Marshall, who Is a brother-in-law of Miss Adele Waddell who is one of our most popular teachers, to succeed .Mr. R. J. Armstrong, who recently moved to Augusta. Mr. Mar shall will not accept under the cir cumstances, although he is greatly in terested In securing that much needed school in Eastview. It is to be regret ted that this new rule of the Board will deprive the city of the services of so good a citizen in this capacity. There is no more emphatic proof of Cedartown’s raidd growth than the increased attendance at our public schools, and they are the most Impor tant enterprise we have.
