The notable ex ception of late yeara was the Atlanta & Birmingham, which made money on Its Georgia bustnoHs but made the fatal mistake of writing heavily at the outset In Ban Francisco, where it shared the fate of older and larger companleH In being knocked down and out by the widespread earthquake fires. The Immense sum of $4,288,000 was sent out of Georgia laat year for fire Insurance alone, only about 40 per cent of which found Its wsy back to Georgia in losses, salaries and other expenaoH, There Is no valid reason why there should not be enough good companies organized In Georgia to handle prac tically all the huMinoHH In the state, and thuN keep the money at home which now goe* In vast quantities to New York, where It Is at once invest ed.
