All other races parry be accomplished in a short time if you try. The Cherokee Driving Club having decided to help out the Fair Association by giving a fair this fall, have gone at It right and are driv ing things in a grand rush. A can vass of our public-spirited business men has been made, and several hun dred dollars In cash and merchandise have been raised to pay in premiums to exhibitors, thus insuring the suc cess of the various competing depart ments of the County Fair. Clay, the able and pop ular gentleman who so faithfully rep resents Georgia In the United States Senate, has accepted the invitation of the Club to address the people of Polk on the opening day. This will he the first opportunity that the peo- plo of Polk have had to listen to an address from him, and they will come from far and near to hear him. lie Is a forceful and Interesting speaker, genuine “man of the people," and his address will be one of the prin cipal features of the Fair. His host of friends and admirers will be glad to welcome him here. As stated last week. Gordon Lee, than whom the Seventh never had a more generally beloved Representative, has likewise accepted an Invitation to be with us during the Fair. Mr. Lee makes no oratorical pretensions, but he is a hard worker for his constituents, and has accomplished more for them than scores of Congressmen who "bob up serenely" on the floor of tho House whenever opportunity offerR for Hpeech-muking. He Is level-headed and active, a successful farmer and business man, and is universally loved by the people whom he serves. Headed by a good brass band, a big parade will form in front of the City Hall at 9 o'clock. The speech es at the Fair grounds will begin at 10 o’clock, and 1 o'clock will begin THE RACES. Polk county has some fine horsos which will compete for the liberal prizes offered, and our neighboring counties of Floyd and Haralson will Hend some speedy stock to go on the track against them.
