Editor Union News:—I am going to tell you all something the Union New3 la doing down here in Texas. We aro growing very fast, and we e strictly in the fight for fifteen cents cotton. It is a hard fight but we are determined to win. Our ware house Is issuing warehouse certifi cates to the amount of $35 on the bale in order to help the farmers to hold their cotton. They had a meeting with the business men of Brownwood, and they agreed to accept the s certificates as payment of debts. Tliky are is sued in denominations of five dol lars and draw intreest at the ratejof six per cent, failing due six months from date of Issuing. One ‘bank in Brownwood agreed to float one-fifth of them with New York Exchange. Now, why can’t, you all do that soems to me like you could. Our crop hero will not be over one- fifth of what it was last year, and it is about all picked out. So stay with your cotton, boys. We are going to win this fight before we quit, if we have to stay at home, wear old rags and live on corn bread and water for the next twelve months. Stand to your guns and victory is ours. Yours for success, E. B. DREWRY. Hon. W. 8. Coleman, of Cedartown, was id the city for a day this week. Mr. Coleman was for fourteen years the president of the Georgia Weekly Press Association, and was the man who brought the association to Cor dele two summers ago, which rendered so much valuable aid in the creation of Crisp. He voluntarily retired from the presidency of the association hist summer. Mr. Coleman ha^ not sold his news paper, The Cedartown Standard, a good many papers have stated, but stills owns the paper In connection with his partner, Mr. Russell, who is running the paper while Mr. Coleman is out In the Interest of establishing agencies for the fire insurance com pany recently organized In Cedartown of which he is one of the officers and promoters. If Cedartown had adopted this plan, hundreds of bales of our farmers’ cot ton which was forced to sale by in- abilltyq to borrow money on It, would now be safe in the warehouse waiting for 15 cents per pound. And if this plan had been adopted here, over $50,000 would have been turned loose to pay debts and buy the goods which now lie on our mer chants’ shelves. Our farmers are holding over 1,000 bales of cotton for 15 cents per pound. Our merchants are holding goods on their shelves which these farmers need. The failure to exchange and make business brisk and prosperous was caused by the opposition of inter ested parties to the cotton certificate plan, if you want to know who they are ask Yours truly, JOHN I.
