They are: Reynolds IGA Supermarket (approved by Reynolds City Council in February, opened in June); Taylor Made Ice Cream (opened in Butler in May); Ogams Feed & Seed (opened in Butler in May); Georgia Recov ery Campus (opened near Reynolds in July); Manny’s Boots & Repair (opened in Reynolds in August); and Mer cer Medicine (approved by the Taylor County Commissioners in February and opened in Reynolds in December). Accolades and Honors Every year, Taylor County athletes, scolars, and citizens give us all a reason to be proud, and 2023 was no exception. We’ll staid with sports. The TCMS Lady Viking Basketball Team was named Region Champions. The TCHS Lady Viking Basketball Team won the Region Championship by defeating Macon Co., and went on to finish the season in the Final Four of the State Tour nament. The TCHS Track & Field Team and Golf Team both advanced to State. The TCHS Lady Viking Softball Team was named Region 6A Champions over Schley Co. and hosted the Super RegionaIs. Also, Victoria Cooper was named Region Pitcher of the Year, and Head Coach Ronnie Wiggins was named Region Coach of the Year. The Taylor County 8U and 10U Basketball Teams both won the Flint River Bas ketball League Champion ships. The Taylor County 12U Baseball Team grabbed the Dixie Youth District Champion ship. The Taylor County 10U Football Team won the Flint River Football League Cham pionship, and Bella Bacha ad vanced to the State Gymnast ics Competition. Gunnar Watson, a former Vi king, was named the Sim Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week. He and the TVoy Tro jans went on to win the Sun Belt Conference Champion ship. Moving on to academics, Parker Hartley and Macy Mur rah were named the 2023 TCHS STAR (Student Teacher Achievement Recognition) Stu dents of the Year, and Mrs. Diane Madore was named STAR Teacher. Karima Ahsan was the CTAE Student of the Year, and Ms. Amy Jones earned the title of Taylor County Teacher of the Year. Samantha Bowling and Ma son Wainwright won the Tay lor County Band Boosters Val entine Sweetheart Program. The TCHS Homecoming Queen is Kadedria McDowell and the King is Caleb Gray. Londen Bunkley was crowned TCMS Homecoming Queen, and the King is Edward Brown. Chief Lonnie Holder and Chief Jimmy downs were pre sented with Boy Scouts Golden Eagle Awards, Coach Matt Troutman received the Charlie A. Hicks, Sr. Humanitarian Award, and Rov, Alvin Turner earned the Chattahoochee- FlintRESA Champion for Edu cation. In May, the Bentley sisters made front page news for three consecutive weeks, as they competed on Family Feud and won a ear and $41,925. The Bentleys are; Karnetria Bentley Barnett, Karmishala Bentley-Cuyler, Kartisha Bentley, Karprice Bentley Brown, and Karlesha Bentley. Ambulance In Reynolds In September, the County Commissioners agreed to house one of its ambulances in Reynolds, in a 3:2 vote. In fa vor were Commissioners Tameka Harris, Cicero Latimore, and Randy Nelson. Opposing were Chairman Rob ert Peacock and Commissioner Milton Harris. This decision brought mixed emotions from the communities, partially de pending on where you live. The new ambulance facility in Reynolds is being completed and is anticipated to be opera tional in the first part of the new year, 2023 saw lots of accomplish ments and goals met, new busi ness and community assets, and a few issues came up, with most heing resolved. All in all, it was a good year in Taylor County. Here's to another good year in 2024! Happy New Year! COMMUNITY CALENDAR Moored Chapel Baptist Church will host Revival Jan. 7th, 14th, and 21st, Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., with singing special songs, lunch, and fellowship. The revival will feature Tom Owensby, an evangelist with passion to work with the local churches and people around the world. Take Hwy. 96 to Geneva, turn south on Hwy. 240, go about five miles, turn left on Moore’s Chapel Rd., and the church is on the right.
