Yalkstine Day.— Last Wednesday being Valen tine Day, a perfect throng of people—big, little, old and young, rich and poor, danced attendance at the post office. The young lady was made the happy recipient of a tiny love emblem, from some bashful youth who couldn’t muster up courage to tender hig love sentiments by word of mouth ; the young ma j was rendered happy by ihe reception of something pretty, which at once set his goes - ing faculties in motion and sent his imaginings on the scout; the ; old maid was seen to work' her wrinkle! brow into the most fearful contortions and go into a perfect deluge of convulsions, be cause seme smart piece of impudence had taken the opportunity offered to tell her of her faults and explain away her petted beauty; the baehe lois, of all grades and trades, were perfectly fu rious when’they broke the seal, or were happily made able to thick that'. ' While the lamp holds out to bum The vilevtwinner may return, simply because some mischievous little nymph had sent him a valentine with something sweet in it. Even our colored population were exhibiting their ivorys to Tommy Cloud, while awaiting for that valentine. In fact, all Cambridge was alive ou Wednesday. Some were prelty and some were funny, Aud some were written to „ the young man’s •s's . “honey," While others .vtffere ugly and not at all nice, And to find out who sent them would be paid any-price. Many were the jokes perpetrated on everybody and their kihsfolk, and some were exceedingly amusing. For instance, a young counter hopper, not a thousand miles from the Sun office, received a valentine in the shape of a long letter from ar dent Fanny, and so elated was the gentle youth that he made Ned Henderson fsel good by pric - Ing certain articles of furniture, hhd his wash woman just declared fore goodness she’d have to raise the wa-h bill if he increased the It would fake more space than we have at com mand to detail all the various jokes and coming under our notice during* Wednesday, and we will dost} by advising all those who were made the subjects of fnn, to keep a stiff upper lip, for George Washington was onco a man- and Queen Victoria a moman of their ages. The following Valentine was picked up in close proximity.to the Flint River Store. We suppress full names. Some poor blade loves to distraction— how sad the picture it presents; when a young man can pen the like as a proof of hife devotioi).
