Smithville Council Looks
Forward To Save The Past
The Smithville City Council
and Mayor Jack Smith took a gi
ant step forward on saving the
historical landmarks of Smith
ville last week when they voted
to create a downtown develop
ment authority. The council took
this important action during their
council meeting last week.
The downtown development
authority will be able to preserve
many of the landmarks in Smith
ville while promoting economic
development by refurbishing the
old buildings and leasing them
out to businesses that will draw
local residents as well as people
from out of town to Smithville.
While the mayor and council-
men would like to see an indus
trial park developed in the north
ern end of Lee County, they see
the creation of the downtown de
velopment authority as a major
plus in creating new business op
portunities in Smithville.
The members of the Smithville
Downtown Development Author

council.
