Hayes Win UKC
Winter Classic Trophy
Special to the Ledger
Owen “Donnie” Hayes won
a trophy during the UKC
Winter Classic that was
recently held in Albany at the
Albany Exchange Club Fair
Grounds. He won the trophy
for the UKC Nite Hunt High
Scoring English Female Dog.
Donnie is a senior at Lee
County High School and is
jointly enrolled at Albany
Technical College where he
is enrolled in the welding
program.
He started coon hunting
with Bruce Henderson about
three years ago. He then went
to a competition hunt with
some buddies and enjoyed it.
Donnie had plenty of dogs
ranging from Walker, Black
and Tans to English. Last
Christmas, Mr. Henderson
told him that he could have
Ashley, which is a three year
old English female.
Donnie said that Ashley is
the best coon dog he has ever
owned, much less had the
pleasure of hunting.
Donnie entered Ashley in
the 2006 Winter Classic on
January 27 and January 28.
On Friday night, the 27th,
he went to Chickasawhatchy
to hunt. On Saturday night,
he went to Roberta, Georgia
and won his cast and a five
foot tall trophy for high scor
ing English female.
The trophy was presented
by The United English and
Franciers Association.
Donnie also has a four and
a half month old English
male named Bubba that is
already starting to be very
active with a coon and coon
hide.
