Auditions For Musical This Thursday Special to the Ledger The Lee County Pal ladium Players’ 26th Season continues in 2019 with their annual town-and-gown musical production coming in March. This year the re nowned theatre troupe is inviting teens and adults from the Southwest Georgia area to audition for their production of the hit Broadway smash The Drowsy Chaperone. Auditions will be held on Thursday, January 10th at 3:30 p.m. and again at 6:00 p.m. People wishing to audition may come to either audition session. For these auditions, teens and adults are asked to perform a brief, prepared musical selec tion. They should bring a CD or digital device with their accompani ment. The audition se lections should be about 32 measures long. Sing ers may perform a selec tion from The Drowsy Chaperone or any other musical. The show does feature period dancing, including tap dancing, so the show’s producers are looking for skilled or experiences dancers, too. The show’s director and choreographer Dotty Davis says, that The Drowsy Chaperone is a hilarious show-within- a-show that centers on a rather quirky musical theatre fan’s looking back nostalgically to the golden era of Broadway musicals, the 1920s. And as he listens to an LP of his favorite old musical, that very musi cal bursts to life in his very living room—and then audiences are off on a wacky romp with a host of delightful and kooky characters, including two lovers on the eve of their wed ding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, a not-so-bright hostess, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan and an intoxicated chaperone. The Drowsy Chaperone won 5 Tony Awards when it debuted on Broadway in 2006. Davis says that the show “will be great fun for both performers and audiences.” Additional informa tion on these audi tions is available at 229.903.2297 or at the- atrelchs@lee .kl 2 .ga .us. 10499 02456 To Subscribe Call 229-759-2413 BANK of LEE COUNTY A Division of Bank of Terrell 3000 N.
