Page 2B, The Lee County Ledger, Wednesday, January 9,2019 God’s Word By Charles Harris Pastor, Beattie Road Church of Christ What is your delight? What is it you look forward to each day? Psalm 1 says, the God approved person has a delight “in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night.” The more one studies the word of God, the more that the Word will become a de light. Psalm 19:10 says, the Scriptures “are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb.” The Bible offers us the precious gift of truth. And we need the truth not a lie. We would rather know the truth that hurts for a short time but blesses us eternal ly than to hear a lie that pleases for now but costs us our soul. The Scriptures give us that key to sort through the many voices of our day and to be able to unlock the truth. Psalm 119:160 proclaims, “The sum of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous ordinances is everlasting.” The Lord Jesus could say in John 14:6, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; and no one comes to the Father but through Me.” And He promised in John 8:31-32, that “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” The Lord Jesus prayed in John 17:17, “Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.” And the Lord Jesus told Pilate, Pontius Pilate, in John 18:37, “For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. And everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.” God gave us His word to save us. The apostle Paul said in Romans 1:16, “For I am not ashamed of the gos pel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” James 1:21 says, “There fore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive that word that’s implanted, which is able to save your souls.” When Peter came to Corne lius’ house, he brought “words” by which Cor nelius and his household were saved (Acts 11:13). Romans 10:17 says, “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” 2 Corinthians 5:19 says of the gospel, that it is the “word of reconciliation.” Philippians 2:16 calls it the “word of life.” The Lord Jesus said in John 6:63, that “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.” We must never be ashamed of the gospel, because it is God’s will. It possesses those same qualities that God Himself possesses, endued with His divine authority. It will never fail. Though everyone has free will, and many will choose to ignore it, or try to alter it, or reject it altogether, the gospel will endure. The one who has committed his or her life to it will not be disappointed, as through His word, God will accomplish His good work of salvation. May we be commit ted to its principles and precepts, to living them out in our daily lives, and faithfully commu nicating them to those around us. Those who take their refuge in the enduring Word of God, shall endure forever with Him. When people distort God’s Word to fit them selves, they cheat them selves and those who agree with them. Sadly, people often try to make the Bible teach some thing false. And they’re only fooling themselves. The Bible frequently says, “Be not deceived,” and it says that because people often lie to themselves rather than face the truth. That’s why we must con tinually listen closely to Scripture. I worry about those who think they’ve been saved but haven’t listened closely to Scripture. Don’t be fooled. The Bible teaches that we must believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God to be saved (John 8:24). And out of love for God, we must repent of sin and turn to righteous ness to be right with God (Luke 13:3). As a loving, penitent believer we must confess our faith and be baptized into Christ. Just as those in Acts 2:38 needed to be baptized to have their sins forgiven, so do we. Baptism is the time that God sets a penitent believer free from sin (Romans 6:3-7). And I hope that you’re going to listen to God’s Word and obey it today! The Beattie Road church of Christ meets at 1731 Beattie Rd., Albany, GA. I’ve called your name. You’re mine. When you’re in over your head, I’ll be there with you. When you’re in rough waters, you will not go down. When you’re between a rock and a hard place, it won’t be a dead end— Because I am GOD, your personal God, The Holy of Israel, your Savior. I paid a huge price for you: all of Egypt, with rich Cush and Seba thrown in! That’s how much you mean to me! That’s how much I love you! I’d sell off the whole world to get you back, trade the creation just for you. Food to chew Shane Waller on: You know how it feels when you want someone to believe you? Kingdom Covenant South is located at 101 Hickory Grove Road, Leesburg, Georgia times we will follow the statement wanting to be lieved with, “I promise!” We all are guilty, and most of us mean it when we say it. But in order for people to believe us at times we have to make this statement. God’s promise is different. He doesn’t have to reassure us in everything we ask. God has proven Himself from the beginning of time that He will fulfill His promises. I know at times it may be hard to believe or know that God is there in the midst of the storms of life. I personally battle daily with certain things and there are times when, right when I’m feeling all alone, God reminds me of His promise to protect and love me. Last year was probably one of the hardest years of my life. Going through the emotional stress of what came from volunteering after the tornados hit our communities, having a DUI driver hit and total out my work enclosed trailer that I’ve had for more than a decade, los ing my main mentor in recovery, then having all my tools and chainsaw gear stolen from me in the blink of an eye with no chance of ever seeing any of it ever again. Yes, last year was very tough! There were many times I cried out and asked God, “Where are You?” And just like always, God would reveal Himself. And just like always, I would fall to my knees seeking forgiveness for my weakness in trust and thank Him for never leaving my side. You see God is omnipresent and is filled with agape love, which means He is everywhere and never runs out of love. Today if you’re finding your self distrusting God or wondering where He is, remember He is there and He is never going to leave your side. Keep fighting the good fight and never give up. - The devil smiled and clapped with joy when he saw me with my head down, then trembled with fear when I lifted my head and said, “AMEN!”- —unknown— Local Runner Race Results 2018 Jingle Bell Jog 5K/10K in Albany on December 8, 2018 (Sat urday morning) results: 10K (6.2 Miles) Danny Wall (Leesburg, GA.)=85:07 (Male, 70- 74=3rd) Brenda Gail Wall (Leesburg, GA.)=98:32 (Female, 65-69=1 st) 5K (3.1 Miles) Danny Wall (Leesburg, GA.)=42:50 (Male, 70- 74=3rd) Brenda Gail Wall (Leesburg, GA.)=67:31 (Female, 65-69=7th) 2018 Runner’s Reunion to Remember 5K at Pitts Park, Clarkesville, GA, on December 16.2018, (Sunday afternoon) results: Danny Wall (Leesburg, GA.)=15:43 (Male, 75- 79=1 st) Brenda Gail Wall (Leesburg, GA.)=18:50 (Female, 65-69=3rd) 2019 New Year’s at Noon 5K at Sandy Creek Park, Athens, GA. on January 1, 2019 (Tuesday noon) results: Julian Strickland (Leesburg, GA.)=22:43.7 (Male, 50-54=lST) Harold Benton (Leesburg, GA.)=25:37.4 (Male, 60-64=5TH) Danny Wall (Leesburg, GA.)=38:48.5 (Male, 75-OVER=lST) Trina Strickland (Leesburg, GA.)=41:01.7 (Female, 50-54=10TH) Brenda Gail Wall (Leesburg, GA.)=46:15.8 (Female, 65-69=8TH)
