Rec ommended early season varieties include Austin, Brightwell, Climax, Premier, and Woodard. Mid-season varieties include Bluebelle, Brite- blue, Chaucer, Powder- blue, and Tifblue. Late season varieties include Baldwin, Centurion, Choice, and Delite. More than one variety should be planted for proper pollination. Blueberries need at least a half day of sun each day. They grow best in a soil pH of 4.0 to 5.3. Sulfur can be added to the soil to adjust pH. Rabbiteye blueberries should be spaced six feet apart in the row. The rows should be 12 feet apart. Mix gener ous amounts of peat moss or milled pine bark into each planting hole. Prune the plant back by 1/3 to !4. Remove any flowers or fruit that develops during the first year. Properly managed, blueberry bushes will produce some fruit the second or third year after transplanting.
