High School SADD Receives $6,500 Grant From the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety Special to the Ledger Lee County High School’s Students Against Destructive De cisions Chapter - The Butterfly Effect - has received a $6,500 grant from the Governor’s Of fice of Highway Safety. The Lee County Board of Commissioners is the fiscal agent of the grant, which the state provides to involve Georgia stu dents in reducing traffic crashes, injuries and deaths of teen drivers. The GOHS grant will enhance Lee County High School’s existing SADD chapter with the idea that student input into the solution will help alleviate the problem of teen driver fatalities in Georgia. SADD’s unique ap proach involves young people delivering education and preven tion messages to their peers through school and community-wide activities and cam paigns responsive to the needs of their particular locations. “Lee County is now in its second grant year with us and we’re excited to see what 2019 brings both for their students and teen drivers across Georgia,” said GOHS Communi cations Manager Robert Hydrick. So far this year the LCHS SADD chapter has helped to provide suicide prevention awareness, started an ongoing project to make blankets for youth in lo cal shelters, conducted a student-driver seatbelt check, and sponsored a school-wide assembly with Bobby Petrocelli, a motivational speaker who shares with people of all ages about the power of their deci sions and how to build a strong foundation for their lives. For more information on this grant program, contact GOHS at 404- 656-6996 and for more information on GOHS and its other highway safety programs, visit www.gahighwaysafety. org.
