The announcement was made by MaxPreps, the online high school sports leader and a CBSSports. com site. “The MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard honors the very best high school teams in the nation. To qualify, you must be highly ranked nationally by MaxPreps; and you must also win a state championship. Those are tough qualifications considering there are nearly seventeen thou sand teams competing in high school varsity foot ball,” said Andy Beal, president and founder of MaxPreps. “Congratulations to the Lee County Trojans on their amazing achieve ment. MaxPreps and the Army National Guard are honored to recognize you for your hard work and amazing work on the field. “ Lee County (15-1) blanked Northside of Warner Robins, 14-0, on December 11 to claim its second straight Georgia 6A state championship. Lee County is one of 50 football schools being honored on the Max Preps Tour of Cham pions presented by the Army National Guard. This marks the second straight season the Tro jans were selected to the Tour of Champions as they were honored last season when they were ranked No. 80 in the nation. “It’s a true honor for our school and com munity and to receive this award two years in a row is surreal,” said Lee County head football coach Dean Fabrizio, who completed his tenth season. Lee County shut out six of its opponents while holding 13 of them to a touchdown or less. Meanwhile, this year’s team became only the third in Georgia state history to go 15-0 with none of its victories being decided by fewer than 14 points. The Trojans lone loss came late December when Lee County was walloped by No. 5 St. Frances Academy of Baltimore, Md„ 43-14. Georgia Army Nation al Guard Sergeant First Class Haley N. Hutch erson presented Coach Fabrizio and the team with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy Wednesday after noon during a National Signing Day assembly. The team also received a banner for their accom plishment. “The Army National Guard embodies team work and a commitment to community and coun try. Just as your team joins together to defeat adversity and claim the victory, the Army National Guard stands in solidarity to protect our local communities and the United States of America as a whole,” said Major Charlton Grant. “On behalf of the Army National Guard, I am honored to recognize this nationally ranked championship team for their dedication, perse verance and teamwork.” MaxPreps Computer Rankings are used to determine team rank for the Tour of Champions. The system utilizes the huge number of game results stored in the MaxPreps database. Generally, the more a team wins the higher the ranking, but the sys tem takes into account quality wins (against other highly ranked opponents), margin of victory, and strength of schedule.
