Page 4B, The Lee County Ledger, Wednesday, February 13,2019 Cotton Candy Christianity By Charles Harris Pastor, Beattie Road Church of Christ While the concept might have originated in Europe, it was William Morrison and John C. Wharton of Nashville who made it become a reality. In 1897, they created the machine which used air and sugar to popular ize the spread of a new product. They called it fairy floss. It still has that name in Australia. In much of the world, it is called candy floss. In France, it is called Papa’s beard. You have eaten it since you were a child and likely call it cotton candy. There are some inter esting paral lels between cotton candy and what has happened in the religious world since the Lord estab lished the church. He established the church in a world whose ap peal was to the outward aspects of religious life. The pagan world had temples everywhere, and the devotion to the gods worshiped there was popularized by gods who sought to satisfy the fleshly nature of man. They were not designed to change the hearts and souls of men. Even Judaism in the first century had ignored the greatest commands and focused on sab bath keeping, showy religion and ceremonial rituals. The Lord de scribed them as only having a form of godli ness, while neglecting grace and the weightier matters of God’s law (2 Timothy 3:5; Matthew 23:23). Christianity was designed to change the heart using the truth revealed in the Bible to bring men to God. It was based on the principle that God is a spirit, and we bow before Him with our spirits and souls seeking Him (John 4:24). But, all that has changed. So much of religion in our land is like cotton candy. Cotton candy looks so great. You can get it in any color or flavor you desire. The religious world is so divided that you can find any “fla vor” of church you want. However, cotton candy has little nutritional value (remember your mom’s devotion that you have a balanced diet) and doesn’t really give you what you need. America feeds itself on the “sugar and air” mixture of reli gious cotton candy. After you eat your two ounces of sugar and air, your body still needs more. Religion without deep Bible knowledge destroyed Israel and is destroying this land (Hosea 4:6). You cannot know the Lord without knowing His word (1 John 2:4). You cannot love the Lord and ignore keeping His word (John 14:15). A child at the fair sees the cotton candy and it tastes so good, but a steady diet of this will destroy his health. Religiously, a steady diet Charles Harris KIDS TALK ABOUT GOD BY CAREY KINSOLVING AND FRIENDS The Love of God Reminds You of What? “The love of God reminds me of the fruits of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kind ness, goodness, faith fulness, gentleness and self-control),” says Josh, age 10. “God gives us our fruits so that we may have good attitudes all day long. Once we have given all our fruits, we get really edible. All we have to do is ask God for more fruit.” Josh, I’m afraid that sometimes when friends are looking for peaches, strawberries or mangos from my life, they get lemons. “God’s love is when you come home from school, and your dog jumps up and licks you,” says Taylor, 7. Dogs are the clear win ners among the animals nominated for best expressing God’s love. I’m sure God would be glad if our love and devotion to him where as wholehearted as that of Taylor’s dog. Do you ever get excited about God? “Love is patient,” says Caroline, 7. “Love is kind. Love is through the world all the time.” Try around the world, says William, 9: “The love of God reminds me of a circle because it never ends. It also reminds me of a plane because it lifts me when I’m down. God’s love reminds me of a warm night by the fire because it warms me.” Molly, 9, has another angle on warming up: “God’s love reminds me of a mother making cookies and hot choco late when you come in from playing in the snow.” Moms show God’s love in other ways, says Chris, 8: “God gave my mom the will to help my dad to know God. My mom also brought me to know God.” Is there a greater love gift a mother could give? The gift that keeps on giving is eternal life, a relationship with God through his Son. Stacy’s mom knows how to make her feel special: “The love of God reminds me of my mother because when ever she comes home from work, she kisses me and says, ‘I love you so much.’” Don’t forget Dad, says Ross: “The love of God reminds me of my dad because he is hard work ing downtown.” Downtown or uptown, please remember God at special occasions, says Alina, 9: “The love of God reminds me of a birthday cake. The candles remind me when God lights the way. The icing reminds me of how Legals, from page 3B NOTICE OF SALE UNDER POWER GEORGIA, LEE COUNTY By virtue of a Power of Sale contained in that certain Se curity Deed from ANTHONY BRIDGES, PHYLLIS MILL ER-BRIDGES to MORTGAGE ELECTRONIC REGISTRATION SYSTEMS INC AS NOMINEE FOR SECURITY ATLANTIC MORTGAGE CO INC, dated February 28, 2008, recorded March 5, 2008, in Deed Book 1239, Page 0034, Lee County, Georgia Records, said Security Deed having been given to secure a Note of even date in the original principal amount of One Hundred Seventy-Seven Thousand Four Hundred Twenty-Two and 00/100 dollars ($177,422.00), with interest thereon as provided for therein, said Security Deed having been last sold, assigned and transferred to U.S. Bank Trust National As sociation, as Trustee of CVI LCF Mortgage Loan Trust I, there will be sold at public outcry to the highest bidder for cash at the Lee County Courthouse, within the legal hours of sale on the first Tuesday in March, 2019, all prop erty described in said Security Deed including but not limited to the following described property: ALL THAT TRACT OR PARCEL OF LAND LYING IN LAND LOT 287 OF THE SECOND LAND DISTRICT OF LEE COUNTY, GEORGIA AND BE ING ALL OF LOT 35 OF HOLLY PLANTATION, SECTION ONE & ONE-A, ACCORDING TO A MAP OR PLAT OF SAID SUBDIVISION AS SAME IS RECORDED IN PLAT CABINET D, SLIDE D-159, IN THE OF FICE OF THE CLERK OF THE SUPERIOR COURT OF LEE COUNTY, GEORGIA.
