Special to the Ledger The Georgia State Society Daughters of the American Colonists met for their Eighty- Fifth State Assembly at the Augusta Marriott in Augusta, Georgia. Members of the Pierre Robert Chapter attend ing were Regent Sandi Driskill, Vice-Regent Martha Hill, Treasurer Dawn Hamill, Regis trar Brenda Bush, Past Regent Ann Garner and associate member Karen Smith Griffin. Members attended the Candlelight Din ner on Friday evening and welcomed Na tional President Mary C. Armstrong. State Regent Thelma Kilpat rick presided over the event. State officers gave reports which in cluded a report by State Second Vice-Regent Sandi Driskill. This was followed by Chapter Regents reporting their chapter’s activities for 2018. National President Mary C. Armstrong presented a power point presentation about one of her projects “Poplar Forest, a New Path to Jefferson.” This is a home of Thomas Jef ferson located in For est, Virginia, where he shaped his thoughts and cultivated the ideas that would influence a new nation. Mary’s goal is to make Poplar Forest more accessible to visitors with signage and im proved roads. During the Saturday meeting chairmen gave reports and presented awards. Pierre Robert Chapter received ten awards and was recog nized for outstanding newspaper articles and photos in the Fee Coun ty Fedger. Awards re ceived were: First Place for Fargest Monetary Donation to Colonial & Genealogical Records, First Place Chapter Do nation National Head quarters Endowment Fund, Tie Greatest Mon etary Donation to the Historic Fandmarks and Memorials Fund, First Place Fargest Percentage Increase in Membership, 2nd Place Most New Members 2018, 100% Chapter Subscriptions to Colonial Courier, 2018, Second Fargest Number Registered State As sembly 2019, Certificate for Stamps for Wounded Warriors, Third Place Chapter History Book and Appreciation for Contributing Genea logical Books to Focal Fibraries.
