Vietnam Veterans Homecoming Celebration Special to the Ledger Lee County Code Enforcement and the City of Leesburg Po lice Department will be partnering with the county and city take back of unneeded or un wanted drugs. The pill collection box is now located at the city hall and is available Monday through Friday during normal business hours to drop off the medications. This project is directed towards removing pre scription drugs from being abused or to fall into the hands of a child. Another issue with these medications is that if they are flushed down the toilet, the chemicals in them go untreated at the waste water treat ment plant and will enter into the local water ways causing potential impacts on the water quality. In the past years, the take back program has netted hundreds of thousands of pills and over two hundred pounds of pills were destroyed without an negative impact on the air or water quality. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office will no longer ac cept medications and the drop box was moved to the city hall in Leesburg. Any and all medications can either be dropped off at the police station or if there is no means to bring the drugs to city, you can contact code enforcement and arrange a pick date. Simply place your unwanted drugs into a plastic bag and tie off the top. There is a “No questions asked” policy but, we do request that needles or used medical items are not included in the bags. If you have any questions about the drug take back program please feel free to contact the Leesburg Police Chief, Chris Prokesh or Lee County Code Enforcement Of ficer, Jim Wright.
