The Lee County Ledger, Wednesday, March 6, 2019, Page 7A Political Power Never Abdicates Special to the Ledger By Kate Scarmalis Once upon a time there was a very vain emperor who cared for nothing but his fine clothes. One day, two con men arrived in town and convinced him that they were weavers. The clothes they created had a very special quality. The clothes became invisible to any per son who was stupid or incapable of doing their occupation. This was good news for any ruler: he could rid himself of any incompetent fool in his empire. So he paid a fortune for the swindlers to weave him some fine clothes. The swindlers went about pretending to weave, all the while stealing the silk that they are sent. The king wanted a report on how his clothes were coming along, but was afraid to examine them for himself, in case he would not be able to see them. He sent his trustiest min ister to check them out. Of course the minister couldn’t see the nonexistent clothes but was afraid to say so himself. He returned to the emperor and told them that the robes were wondrous. The con men continued to weave on an empty loom. When the robes are finally ready, the swindlers asked the em peror to remove his old Special to the Ledger On March 9th, 2019 at 8:30 am the Lee County Republican Party will convene Precinct Mass Meetings to elect Del egates and Alternates to the Lee County Re publican Party County Convention at (#2 Lee County Century Road Fire Station at 934 US Highway 19 South Leesburg GA, 31763), registration will open at 8 am. All Lee County Resi dents who are legally registered to vote on or clothes. They pretended to dress him in his new finery. The emperor still could not see anything. You cannot see what is not there. When the emperor pa raded through the streets wearing his new clothes (naked as a jay bird) none of the townspeople would admit that they could not see the clothes, for fear of being accused of being stupid or not fit for their jobs. It took an innocent - a child - to point out that the emperor stood in his naked glory. The spell was broken, and all the people took up the cry. The emperor was upset, as he knew the people were right. Be that as it may, he continued with the parade. His lords took even greater pains to appear holding up his train, though in reality there was no train to hold. People will recognize this as a brief summary of the Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale, “The Emperor’s New Clothes”. Fairy tales would not be fairy tales without teaching those essential life lessons. Unfortu nately, like a trouble some cousin, our oral history has been over looked and tossed aside. And with it we lose those teachable moments that take place between adults and their inquisi tive children. So, the inquiring before the date of the Precinct Mass Meetings, and who believe in the principles of the Repub lican Party are urged to participate in the pro cess. The Lee County Re publican Party Conven tion will convene at 10 am on March 9th, 2019 at (#2 Lee County Century Road Fire Sta tion at 934 US Highway 19 South Leesburg GA, 31763) for the purpose of: (1) electing Delegates and Alternates to the 2nd Congressional District mind might ask a gifted schoolchild, “How does the mes sage in ‘The Emper or’s New Clothes’ relate to the political situation in the United States?’ Some have interesting, excit ing lives. Ideas such as these is what I am stuck with. So it goes. At first it is obvious how the message trans lates to our political situ ation in today’s world. Our legislative body is rife with so-called lead ers who see what they want to see, and spew forth so-called truths based on nothing more than a socialist point of view. Such is the general understanding. Those with nothing but time on their hands, the sad shut-in introverts, take the issue to a fur ther depth. For example, consider the political situation in Virginia. This is brain food, for the lifestyle impaired. Most people are familiar with the fracas stirred up by Virginia Governor Ralph Shearer Northam. The Governor came to our attention as his yearbook photo featured a man in black face and another in a Ku 9th Convention; (2) electing Delegates & Alternates to the Georgia Republi can State Convention; (3) electing new GOP Coun ty Officers for the posi tions of County Chair man, Vice-Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer for the 2019-2021 term; (4) conducting all other business as necessary. For further informa tion contact Clifford Lynch, Chairman of the Lee County Republican Party at 229-344-3847 and/or by e-mail at lynch.cliff@att.net. Klux Klan costume. Virginia Senators Tim Kaine and Mark War ner (among others) have called for him to step down from office. The Virginia Emperor stands naked among us. Gover nor Northam has asked for forgiveness, which has not been forthcom ing. It doesn’t help his cause that his family history demonstrates that they have owned at least 84 slaves in the past. Or, maybe worse, that Virginia First Lady Pam Northam reportedly handed out cotton to black students on a tour of the governor’s man sion. The man wouldn’t dare to be a Republican with this history - he’d be out of there. Or tarred and feathered. But a Demo crat can rely upon being backed by his Demo cratic posse. What would happen if Northam stepped down? Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax could assume power - though calls have been made to demand his resignation in response to the sexual assault accusations made against him. Black men with zipper problems, greater than he, have succumbed to public outcry. Third in the line of succession in Virginia is Attorney General Mark Rankin Herring. He could take the reins, except for one thing: He admitted to wearing blackface in the 1980s, when he was a student at the University of Vir ginia. Okay, so then tell us - what does the fairy tale, ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’ have in com mon with our nation’s political situation? Like the emperor in the story, these three leaders have continued to continue. Governor Northam has steadfastly refused to step down, even through the outcry by the public. Here is what has not been covered by the media - those Emperors of Enlightenment. These three miscreants of the Democratic persua sion cannot possibly step down. It would be a disaster to permit Virginia’s Speaker of the House to take power. Speaker Marvin Kirkland Cox has no hope of assuming power. Why, you ask? He is a Republican. So the powers that be continue to carry on, just like the emperor with no clothes. Democrats do not dare to swim against the cur rent. Even a dead fish can go with the flow.
