Curly dock is a common weed growing on untilled land, including ditch banks and roadsides. Curly Curly dock is a fairly common weed often seen in ditches, road sides, disturbed soil, and grassy areas. It can grow in poor soils rang ing from wet to dry. It is not a native plant and is considered invasive. It is not aggressive and gen erally does not compete in native habitats. Curly dock is some what toxic to cattle, sheep, horses, and poul try. It irritates the skin and digestive system of cattle, but I have never personally known of any animal dying as a result of consuming curly Dock dock. Curly dock is credited with certain medicinal properties. It is even claimed that humans can eat the foliage. The plant grows to a height of two to five feet. It has yellowish or green flowers. It is wind polli nated and therefore does not rely on insects for pollination. When the fruit (seeds) are mature, they are a rusty-brown color. Curly dock is usually not a problem and in regularly mowed lawns. For more information, call the Lee County M)& Horn Everything Yow Need To- Get Heady for Spring!
