SGTC Americus Chapter Honor Society Inducts 25 New Members Special to the Ledger South Georgia Tech nical College inducted 25 new members into the Americus campus’ chapter of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) recently during a special ceremony in the John M. Pope Cen ter. The induction marks one of the largest classes the student organization has ever ushered in. To begin the ceremony, NTHS advisor Chester Taylor gave an overview of the organization and its values to the mem bers and their family members and classmates who were in attendance. Next, a current member led a candle lighting ceremony which is used to represent the eight qualities of NTHS’ mission: knowledge, skill, honesty, service, responsibility, scholar ship, citizenship and leadership. Following the ceremo ny, each new member accepted an official membership certificate from Taylor and later closed out the ceremony by standing to recite the NTHS pledge together. In order to receive the honor of becoming a member, students must be nominated by an instructor, be a full-time student at SGTC for at least one semester, and have a minimum cumu lative grade point aver age of 3.7. The student must also demonstrate leadership abilities and display a commendable attitude, good mentality, worthy character, cred ible achievement, and a desire to pursue a career in the field of his or her technical study. The National Tech nical Honor Society is just one of several options for students to get involved on campus. Students interested in becoming more active on campus can contact Cynthia Carter, director of student organizations, by visiting the career services center in Hicks Hall or calling 229-931- 2057. Submitted Photos Students in Introduction to Occupational Safety at LCHS Ninth Grade are busy working on their end of the year construction projects. They are using the skills they learned to create step stools they can use at home.
