Club Members Attened Convention in Columbus was “Gardening on My Mind”, and included educational workshops, awards recognition and tours of Downtown Co lumbus and the National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center. Tuesday night’s keynote speaker was Bonnie Satterth- waite who spoke on “There was No Miracle Gro in the Garden of Eden.” Wednesday’s ac tivities included District Breakfasts, followed by the Award of Merit Luncheon featuring a fashion show by Chico ‘s Apparel. Models from Daffodil included Kathy Hicks and Marideane Maxwell, co-President’s of the club. The Life Mem ber Luncheon at noon Thursday concluded the 2019 convention. Marideane Maxwell designed the arrange ment honoring Magno lia District which was featured in the lobby. Laye Lrazier designed the arrangement Honor ing State President, Jane Hersey. Six more de signs honored the other 6 District which includes Dogwood, Camellia Laurel Redbud, Azalea, and Orleander. Magnolia District was hostess for the conven tion. Rowzee named second place winner in 2019 Dolores Capitan Writing Awards Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) student Matthew Row- zee, of Leesburg, was named the second place winner in Academic Writing for the Delores Capitan Writing Award at GSW’s 2019 Student Recognition Ceremony on April 12 in the Mar shall Student Center. These awards are given by Dr. William H. Capitan, the univer sity’s eighth president, to honor his late wife’s love of writing and to foster writing across the curriculum. Mera is 2 years old and has been at Lee County Animal Shelter since Lebruary 28. Mera was turned into the Shel ter by her owner; who was moving out of the country. She weighs 60 pounds, is spayed and housebroken, and is good with children. Mera would love to be in her Lurever home before the kids are on their sum mer break. Her adoption fee is only $75.00!
