Page 12A,The Lee County Ledger, Wednesday, May 8, 2019 Lee County Road Work To Start Soon During a road com mittee meeting of the county commissioners May 2, the commis sioners decided on three phases for use of the proposed $2,906,304.00 that the county should receive each year from the recently approved TSPLOST. The City of Leesburg should receive approximately $345,155.00 and the City of Smithville should receive $68,491.00. Citizens will soon see the results of the first phase of road work on several roads. Roads targeted for the first phase include 0.2 miles on Taylor Street. 0.2 miles on Baker Street, 0.1 miles on Uncle Jim my’s Lane, 0.1 miles on Long Dirt Road and 0.5 miles on Sandy Beach Road which will need rocks added. The above roads are already lay ered with a rock base which makes paving with asphalt easier. The commissioners agreed to use an alter native process of Liq- uidow liquid calcium chloride on one road to determine its effective ness and durability. The liquid calcium chloride is a very effective dust control agent. While the commis sioners agreed to target funds for each com mission district, they stressed the need to set priorities on roads that serve the projected economic needs of the county such as the new road that will serve the new hospital. Heavily traveled roads such as the Westover - Forrester Extension, New York Road, Ledo Road and Glendale Road are in need of resurfacing. It was pointed out that as dirt roads are paved in the southern part of the county, it will keep the motorgraders in the northern part of the county where the ma jority of the dirt roads Photo by Derryl Quinn Lee County Commissioners discussed the most effective use of the TSPLOST funds and discussed paving priorities during a meeting last week. Pictured (l-r) are Lee County Commission Chairman Billy Mathis, Commissioner John Wheaton, Vice Chairman Rick Muggidge and Commissioner George Walls. are located. Additional roads that were discussed include Eagle Pond, Laramore, Nesbit and South Flow ing Well Roads. Roads in Glendale Subdivision under consideration for Phase 3 Glendale, Seminole, Cherokee, Crow, Apache and Cheyenne. Paving a dirt road cost $1,100,000 per mile. Resurfacing a road cost $110,000 per mile. Geiger’s Geniuses Podcast Special to the Ledger Mrs. Chelsea Geiger’s Kindergarten class at Lee County Primary School has been hosting a weekly podcast online that started in early Feb ruary 2019. Each week they discuss as a class what they want to share with their listeners and on Thursdays they brain storm and write their ideas on chart paper. On Friday mornings, with the help of Instructional Technology Special ist, Daisy Beaver, they record their podcast and share it online with their parents and the com munity. In April they entered their podcast into a National Podcast Competition hosted by GoSynth Podcast. Six judges were chosen from the podcasting industry, who listened to hun dreds of podcasts from submissions across the country. All submissions were rated for the content of the podcast, the struc ture and flow, and the adherence to the com petition guidelines. The will receive receive a pizza party for their whole class and indi vidual medals!Geiger’s Geniuses was announced as the winner of the K-2 Division on May 1, 2019.
