Special to the Ledger Any day spent fishing is a good day. A day you catch a new state record is great! Jacob Hornaday of DeSoto, Ga. is the new state record holder for the spotted sunfish. His catch weighed 11 oz, beating the previous record of 10 oz, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Re sources Division (WRD). The angler hooked this new state record spotted sunfish on a private pond on April 28, 2019 using a beetle spin lure. Jacob wanted to have the fish weight certified, so went directly to the Cordele Hatchery. The hearty size fish was weighed and then returned to the water to get bigger for another day! “Georgia has such great fishing opportunities, and we love to hear about this kind of exciting news,” says Matt Thomas, Chief of Fisheries for the Wild life Resources Division. “This is our first state record of 2019, and I hope it encourages all anglers to get outdoors and go fish Georgia!” Submitted Photo Lee County Middle School East Students Participate in MS Walk Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and Technology Student Association (TSA) members at Lee County Middle School East chose to spend their Saturday morning, on April 13, supporting a worthy cause. The students volunteered at the 2019 Multiple Sclerosis Walk in downtown Albany, GA. They also participated in the walk. Multiple Sclerosis is a disease that attacks the central nervous system. The walk is used as a tool to bring awareness to the disease and to raise funds for people in the local area who are suffering from the illness and may need assistance with care. Business and Computer Science teacher and FBLA/TSA advisor, Nicole Mallory, accompanied students to this event.
