There! It was settled. The disks were fly ing from usher to usher aided along by whatever parishioners gave boost to their glides. There was a gentleman on our pew who somehow had missed the memo that we “could all be seated.” He had his wallet out gazing down into the money slot. He just kept staring at it fumbling like he wanted to create a truth that would not give sway to his emotions. He fi nally sat down in time to bump the frisbee along. I saw what he put in. He had put in two $1 bills. That’s not normally my business but I was to be the next one to bump it along. Dutifully I boost ed it along and placed my prescribed check upon it which seems to be fuel for the flight of the flying saucer. The gentleman sit ting next to me was the father of the man who had struggled to give the $2. The son explained: “I gave two dollars. That leaves me $1 and some change but God will provide.” I knew at that point that I was about to play the part of Aaron Burr and my last Alexander Hamilton was about to be terminated. I pulled out my wal let again after its short return to my back pocket and slid Mr. Hamilton over to the gentleman. That man was taken aback with gratitude. He thanked our God by put ting his hands together in prayer. He thanked me for my generosity. I had been reflecting upon all that God had given to me. This was a mere drop in the bucket. Be sides, I am one who loves to see faith in Christ rewarded immediately. After the service, he and his father were still expressing gratitude. The father can no longer work as he uses a walker. He had just lost his wife with whom he had been married for 61 years. He pointed to a dear lady I know a few pews up and informed me, “She attended our wedding 61 years ago.” She had just passed on April 4th. I didn’t want to pry as to the source of income they now had. I didn’t ask but the son volun teered, “Now I can go and buy Mamma some flowers and take them to her grave. I want to talk to her today.” It would be a Happy Mother’s Day. “And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. So He said, ‘Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; for all these out of their abun dance have put in offer ings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had.’” (Luke 21:1-4) “Then the righteous will answer Him saying, Submitted Photo Carter Lawrence competed in the GA DNR Wildlife Forever State-Fish Art contest.
