Soul Food from the Hood by Keith Hood Twin rainbows: twin promises. It was the per fect sign for a momentous day. My twin grand daughters were dedi cated to the Lord by their par ents earlier this day. It was a child dedication service. What is a child dedication service? Many may mistake the child dedication service as that of infant baptism. This was not an infant baptism. I personally believe that baptism is to be an outward expression of an inward event. It is the public confession of an individual to the world that they are identifying with Jesus in His death, burial and resurrection. This is shown by total emersion into water sym bolizing the death, burial (emersion), and resurrec tion (coming back up). These baby girls have no idea what any of that means. A child dedication service is ultimately the recognition of the Lordship of Jesus Christ by the parents. “I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that your present bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service of worship.” (Romans 12:1) This service was for Clayton and Tabitha Rob erson to publicly extend that offering to their most priceless possessions: Abigail Leigh and Anna Estelle Roberson. It is also a time where the lo cal congregation pledges to pray for the family, encourage them as they grow together, and do all they can to assist the chil dren in coming to know Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord. Then the children are prayed for by name and the par ents are also prayed for. ‘And they brought young children to Him, that He should touch them: and His dis ciples rebuked those that brought them. But when Jesus saw it, He was much displeased, and said unto them, ‘Suffer the children to come to Me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, whoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.’ And He took them up in His arms, put His hands upon them, and blessed them.” (Mark 10:13-16) Tabitha has talked about her children being dedicat ed to the Lord for a very long time. She had a spe cial request for me to do it because, ‘‘You dedi cated us.” Tabitha was dedicated to the Lord in Asheville, NC, in 1990. Emma was dedicated to the Lord in 1993 in the same church. I was the pastor. In fact, she’s named after the church. Solomon was dedicated to the Lord in Africa by Af ricans even before he had been to America. He was dedicated by the African pastors. It was all in their tribal language. We knew the language. They dressed in western coats and ties. We dressed in African garb. They honored us. We honored them. Priceless. Our granddaughters were surrounded by their grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, and a faithful group of people who love Jesus. It was a fantastic service and the fellowship was rich after wards. I am so thankful these children have such a support group. God has had His hand on these girls before, during and after being born. They are true miracles. Afterwards, our family joined us at home for an African dish. Our son had a visitor he met in college. They’ve been keeping in touch. She was about to leave at the end of the day when it was announced that they were now going to call this a relationship. While he was announc ing it there was a double rainbow in the sky. The rainbow is a sign of God’s promise. These were twin rain bows. Our twins were dedicated to this God on this day. Their granddaddy who attended is a twin. This young lady with whom Solomon is now in a rela tionship is also a twin. A personal Abba Father enjoys this kind of thing. ‘‘One generation shall praise your works to another and shall de clare Your mighty acts.” (Psalm 145:5) LEE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL 2019 VARSITY FOOTBALL SCHEDULE DATE OPPONENT SITE AUGUST 15 TIFT COUNTY HOME (THURSDAY) (SCRIMMAGE) AUGUST 24 DOUGHERTY ALBANY STATE (SATURDAY) (HAMP SMITH CLASSIC) (7:00 PM) AUGUST 30 LIFE CFIRISTIAN ACADEMY (VA) HOME SEPT 6 PEACH COUNTY AWAY (8:00 PM) SEPT 13 AMERICUS SUMTER HOME SEPT 20 SOUTHWEST HOME MACON (YOUTH NIGHT) SEPT 27 OPEN OCT 4 THOMSON HOME (HOMECOMING) OCTOBER 11 OPEN OCTOBER 18 NORTHSIDE WR HOME OCTOBER 25 VALDOSTA AWAY (8:00 PM) NOVEMBER 1 HOUSTON COUNTY AWAY NOVEMBER 8 COFFEE HOME (SENIOR NIGHT) ALL VARSITY GAMES AT 7:30 ON FRIDAY UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED Bible, from page 4B mountain of Ephraim, and the children of Israel went down with him from the mount, and he before them.
