Former Fire Chief and Public Safety Director David Forrester served as the county’s EMA Direc tor. Part of his duty was to organize and operate the county’s emergency management system and train the county’s paid and volunteer firemen and rescue units. During their Tuesday’s meeting, the commission ers approved an applica tion for an alcohol license for Walmart Inc. The license request for retail sale of off-premises con sumption of wine and malt beverages was requested by Ms. Shilauntia Kes- haye, an employee of Wal Mart located at 2825 Ledo Rd. The commissioners dis cussed a proposed agree ment with Motorola for six administrative phones. The phones wouldbe used by the Lee County Emer gency Operations Center (EOC). One line will be assigned to each entity of the County, allowing for each department to have a representative physically present in the EOC for any citizen questions or in quiries. E-911 dispatchers will transfer the lines into the EOC room accord ingly. An example used was that if a citizen calls in and needs information Keaton Named To Duke University’s Dean’s List Special to the Ledger Emma Keaton, LCHS Class of 2018, was named to the dean’s list with distinction at Duke University for the spring 2019 semester. Miss Keaton was among 1,937 student who achieved the honor. To make the Arts & Sciences dean’s list with distinction, stu dents must rank in the top 10 percent of their college. Emma will begin her sophomore year at Duke University in August Emma Keaton majoring in Art History with a concentration in Museum Theory and Practice. She is active in the Native Ameri can Student Alliance, participates in ongoing research with the Duke University Wired! Lab (a humanities-based digital art history project), works in the Ruben- stein Rare Book and Manuscript Library, and enjoys Duke Basketball. She is the daughter of Dr. Brandon and Mrs. Misty Keaton of Lee County. from Emergency Opera tions Center in regards to curfews, the caller could be transferred directly to the Lee County Sheriffs Office extension where a representative from that department will answer and be able to provide information to the public. Emergency Call Works is the phone system that E-911 is using. The total cost is $11,103.43, and is budgeted in Lee County E-911’s budget. It covers the six phones, installation and setup of the phones, the system license, and a five year support agree ment. The commissioners approved a bid to CBA Sports Construction Specialists to replace the gymnasium floor for $67,266.18. The gym is located at 116 Starksville Avenue North. The flooring received water damage during the weather events last year and was severely buck led in several areas. The insurance company agreed to pay the full amount for replacement at $67,266.18. CBA Sports Construction Specialists specializes in sports flooring and has a vast experience in gymna sium flooring. The low bid was awarded to Zane Grace Construction Inc. for construction of Green- view Estates Mobile Park water improvement project (CDBG). Three bids were received for the project. The low bid was $324,660.28. The commissioners awarded the bid for the road resurfacing services for Baker Street, Long Dirt Road, and Tay lor Street to the lowest responsive bidder, Oxford Construction Company, for $105 000.00. Four bids were submitted. TSPLOST funds will be used to pay for the resur facing of the three roads. The next regularly scheduled commission meeting is August 13.
