She gave me the sweetest hug of the night. It was authentic for the years. When she introduced us to her husband, she told him she graduated with me, but Tammy my little sister who was standing with us, was her truest friend. I thanked Theresa for being such a great friend to Tammy Theresa was the Flag Captain of our band. Tammy inherited that mantle when Theresa and I graduated. I was honored to sit with Tammy and her hus band, Chris Rahn, among others at our table. Chris was the Quarterback of the football team. Other friends came and went during the evening. I spoke to many. Some I didn’t. One girl I dated. I wouldn’t want to be greeted like Jack Spar row. I might not deserve that. But then I might. “I will sit here and dance with the girl what brung me.” Speaking of that girl what brung me, I married a yankee. There we were at an Effingham Coun ty High School Rebel Reunion, and I’m sitting there with a yankee. Even among rebels I’m a rebel! But I love my yankee. I didn’t have a high school sweetheart so I brung my college sweetheart. We’ve been married 33 years. The atmosphere of the evening was of love and acceptance. Everybody was celebrated on equal terms. That was due to the great leadership of the Class of 1979. Not to be forgotten: As we walked in, there was a desk with shelves on it with several pictures. They were the pictures of those students as they appeared in high school. There was a cross shar ing the space with them. I remember those faces as if they were yester day. But these were the graduated from this life. Silently that sat in suspended animation as their memories contin ued their courses in our minds. Their memories were to share the evening as guests of honor. “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” (John 14:1-3)
