Page 4A, The Lee County Ledger, Wednesday, October 2,2019 Sharing the Word There is a solid layer of crepe myrtle leaves on my walk way. By Harry R. Marti nez, Ph. D Finding Peace The world is searching intensely and vigorously for a commodity called peace. It appears that negotiations among the nations are ever on-go ing. It has been said that there are some two hundred “hot spots” in the world at this time. Add to these is the disin tegration of family units. Unfortunately, the truth in regards to attaining peace is overlooked or ignored. There can be no peace without recognizing that the hu man race is comprised of individu als that pos sess a sin nature. That nature, with its tendency to think of self first, is multiplied over equal to the earth’s population. Acquired at physical birth due to the Fall, it permeates the thinking of every individual. It is a nature that seeks its own way apart from the knowledge of God. The Apostle Paul, speaking of his own old nature being in conflict with his new nature in Christ, wrote under the inspi ration of the Spirit ... “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do — this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it” (Rom 7:15-20 NIV). This is the leading apostle of the Church Age revealing that in his soul there was a spiritual battle that was continu ally raging between the old nature acquired at birth and retained until physical death, and the new nature given him at the moment that he, then known as Saul of Tarsus, placed his faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior. He continues in his letter to the churches in Rome by saying ... “So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my mem bers. What a wretched man I am! Who will res cue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God — through Jesus Christ our Lord (Rom 7:21-25a NIV)! What a magnificent statement! The only place of safety, in the ongoing unseen spiritual warfare, is found in a Person, the Lord Jesus Christ. That which was prophesied centuries before by the prophet Isaiah, had iden tified the coming Savior as the Prince of Peace... “and he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlast ing Father, Prince of Peace” (Isa 9:6b NIV). The prophet prefaced that statement with the words ... “for to us a child is born, to us a son is given” (Isa 9:6a NIV). John the apostle would appear on the scene some seven years later and announce ... “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16 NIV). As Paul would later write ...“For He Himself is our peace. To know Christ as one’s Savior is to have peace with God. It cannot be earned or pur chased by human ability ... “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Eph 2:8-9 NIV). He is the father of five adult children and resides in Lee County with his wife, Sara. Falling We have seen a lot of leaves falling from trees lately. We expect leaves to fall in the Fall, but they started falling long before Fall began. There are reasons for this. This year has been one of variable weather. We have had wet periods. We have had dry peri ods, like the one we are in now. This weather has had an impact on trees. Generally speaking, trees (at least some species of trees) tend to drop leaves when stressed by drought. Sometimes the leaves Leaves are not dropped during the drought period, but drop when rain occurs after a period of drought. Another reason that leaves drop premature ly is leafspot disease. Plentiful rainfall creates an environment favor able to leafspot disease. We have had periods of plentiful rainfall at sometimes this year. Leafspot disease causes infected leaves to drop. We don’t need to guess. The extremist, anti-gun politicians now running for the White House have made their plans crystal clear, Cory Booker says federal agents should interrogate you, photo graph you and fingerprint you - just because you own a firearm, Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren both say they’ll weaponize the massive bureaucratic power of the federal government to wage nonstop war on your gun rights. Ber- nie Sanders says he’ll institute nationwide gun confiscation just like they did in New Zealand and Australia. Joe Biden says he’ll criminalise the sale of virtually every gun in America - only allowing a firearm to be sold if it has a biometric security component like a handgun he once saw in a James Bond movie. National gun-owner li censing, gun registration, sweeping gun bans, and national gun confiscation will soon be the law of the land! Robert McComber Criminals Not Guns The Problem Several weeks ago Dr. Robert Clay wrote a let ter to the editor concern ing the NRA. Previous to this he wrote a letter concerning Medicaid in GA. Both letters have led me to believe he has “Jimmy Carter Disease” a decline into progressive socialism. The letter was titled “NRA has too much power”. There is no such thing. The NRA is the only thing standing against our gov’t and our 2nd amendment. Of course they have their faults just like any other organization, all the way down to the P.T.A. Dr. Clay probably supports them. Our gov’t guarantees fair housing, etc but prevents lending insti tutions from loaning to gun, ammo businesses. Is this fair? We do not need more gov’t intervention, back ground checks, confisca tion of assault weapons from law abiding citi zens. Criminals are the problem and they don’t obey the laws. Our problem is our turning from God and the decline of the family. Young unwed mothers who don’t finish school, absent fathers. Look at the U.S. statistics 71% unwed black mothers, 53% hispanic mothers and 29% white mothers. In 1950 the percent was 71% black, 6% white. In the mid 60’s we integrat ed our schools. The white % increased to 35%. We didn’t help the black, we harmed the whites. We lowered the standards, took prayer and disci pline away. We removed the shame of illegitimate children, living togeth er, adultery, divorce, anything goes. We even subsidize immorality with welfare, medicaid, food stamps, housing even cell phones. The liberal response is “the poor children.” “Poor children” are your 4th & 5th generation of un wed mothers and absent fathers. So how about leaving the NRA and law biding gun owners alone and tackle the real problem - criminals. Let’s put God and fam ily first in our lives and attack the immorality not guns that is destroying us. Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. I have lived to see a lot of dirty politics. I have never seen any as bad, as I have since the Clintons and Obama. They have brought great shame to our beautiful country. We have always prayed to our God and Savior Jesus Christ and our Lord God. These heathens have tried to stop this from day one. Their love is for money, power, lies, deceit and destruction of our beautiful nation. We have a Republican president that is mak ing this country great again. And the money hungry, murdering, devil worshiper Democrats are trying once again to destroy it. Stand up people, stand up for President Trump and pray for our country and him. Good can over come evil, if we all pray together. White, black, Hispanic, all races. Make America great again. Vote Trump and Republicans. Get rid of the dead weight in our government. In God we trust. Stand up for America. Delores Hall The Le£ County Ledger Established August 24,1978 lcledger@bellsouth.net P.O.
