Proceeds from the grant will be used for technology upgrades. “One of the seven guiding principles that govern the way Sumter EMC operates is in volvement in the com munities we serve. This project is a great exam ple of how good things happen when people in a community work togeth er for a common goal. Through this grant from our Foundation, Sumter EMC is proud to help provide the technology needed for the program director to assist cli ents, lead the programs provided by the orga nization and serve the community better,” said Andrea Walker, Chair man of the Sumter EMC Foundation. The Sumter EMC Foundation was founded in 2003 and is funded by cooperative members participating in Sumter EMC’s Operation Round Up®. Every month Sum ter EMC rounds up the electric bill of participat ing members to the next whole dollar amount and deposits the difference into an interest bearing account. The proceeds of the account are admin istered by the Sumter EMC Foundation’s board of trustees through grants to local schools, civic and charitable orga nizations. One hundred percent of the money collected is given back to the community through these grants. To date the Foundation has awarded over $1,039,350 to com munity organizations in Sumter EMC’s service territory. If you are a Sumter EMC member and do not participate in Operation Round Up, please call the office at 800-342-6978 to join or sign up online at www. sumteremc.com.
