The board of education is considering several options in an effort to expand Pre-K classes. Children that are enrolled in Pre-K classes perform at a higher level than chil dren not in Pre-K. One of the options that the board of education is considering is the purchase of the county administration build ing and converting the current board of educa tion building into Pre-K classrooms. Mr. Rash reported on the current condition of the two story county administration build ing. That building once housed all 12 grades and was last used by the school system as part of the elementary school. Years ago, the school system transferred own ership of several build ings on Starksville Av enue including the two story building to the county. The county has made extensive reno vations to the buildings DOHERTY, DUGGAN, HART&TIERNAN INSURORS Home • Auto • Business • Life/Health P.O.Box 71628 (229)888-2040 Albany, GA 31708-1628 800-628-2040 2301 Dawson Road (31707) Fax (229) 435-3036 www.ddhtins.com Leesburg City Council will meet Tuesday, November 5 at including the two story building that houses the current county admin istrative offices. According to Rash, he and maintenance employees Mike Powell, Adam Clan ton, Greg Apperson, toured the two story building October 15. Mr. Rash reported that the interior of the building was renovated in 2009. Interior walls and floors appeared to be in good condition, previous water damage had been repaired and ceilings appeared in good condition. Carpet had been replaced in some offices because of mold concern. The heating and air condi tion system appeared in good condition. He said that units in the basement below the stage need to have condensation pumps installed. Crawl space had new vapor barrier installed. If the board of ed ucation acquires the building, Mr. Rash recommended install ing screens on all crawl space vents and adding ventilation fans and testing the old pipe insulation for asbestos and have them abated, if necessary. It was noted that the basement under the stage holds water when the sump pump is not on. He recommended adding sump pumps to each A/C unit and painting walls and floors with basement sealant, re-grout all loose and missing mor tar and apply sealant to all exterior brick. Another option under consideration is con verting the cafeteria on the downtown campus to Pre-K classrooms and using part of it as a cafeteria for the Pre-K classes. Using Building D which is close to the cafeteria was also dis cussed. That building would need major reno vations to bring it up to a usable condition. The board adjourned from the meeting to go into executive session to review their options.
