Soul Food from the Hood by Keith Hood It’s Veterans’ Day today. You won’t get this until Wednes day. I didn’t write last week. I have a lot of re spect for Veterans. If I had another life, I’d serve in some military branch. But I was enlisted in the Lord’s Army as a Keith Hood missionary to France and Africa. It was out of that expe rience that I wrote this song. It is about the sac rifice I made to do that. No one makes that sacrifice alone. The same is true for those who serve in our armed So, here’s the services, song. IT WAS HIS SACRICE His mother sighs. The time is near for him to go away for years. His wife has heard their calling clear. Her heart is strong, she must not fear. Now wife and kids are going too. His mother knows not what to do. Chorus: It was his sacrifice, he chose this life. It was his sacrifice. Who shares the price? Who shares the price? Their little girl, she goes to school. She shares a room built just for two. (boarding school) Her sister now sleeps all alone, ‘cause she’s the only one who’s KIDS TALK ABOUT BY CAREY KINSOLVING AND FRIENDS Why Do People Have To Die? People die because “God wants more an gels,” says Katie, 6. Though some people act like angels and oth ers like the devil, angels are angels and people are people. With the exception of morticians, no one likes funerals. When we experience the loss of a friend or a loved one, it’s easy to forget that death is not part of God’s orig inal plan. “When Eve sinned and ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, God said, ‘Out of the dust you came, and back to the dust you will return,”’ says Stephani, 11. Don’t forget Adam. He ate, too. Death for us does not mean we cease to exist. Death is separation from God. Most people associate death with the physical body, but death begins in our spirits. Adam and Eve died spiritually before they died physically. The fellowship they once en joyed with God was bro ken when they sinned. Elizabeth, 12, says people die “because God has called them and wants to see them.” Or, as Kyle says, “so they can see God.” According to Tiffany, 9, God might use some people as his eyes: “The reason people die is so we can go to heaven and watch over our loved ones.” In the book of Revela tion, there’s a snapshot of worship in heaven where 24 elders fall down before Jesus Christ with “golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints” (Revelation 5:8). Maybe these bowls contain the prayers of Christians on earth as well as those already enjoying the bliss of heaven. Wouldn’t people in heaven have more in centive to pray for loved ones left behind? Tiffany has more: “An other reason is so that we can be with Jesus. The reason Jesus stays in heaven is because if Jesus is earthly, then he can’t watch over every body, but in heaven, he can.” On the night before his crucifixion, Jesus told his disciples he was going away, but he promised he would not leave them alone. He said he would send the Helper, the Holy Spirit. Jesus would do far more than comfort through the Holy Spirit. He would dwell inside them and live his life through them. “Earth is just a place for us to get ready for heaven,” says Ben. “Maybe some people are ready to go to heaven before others.” How do you know if you’re ready to go? Listen to Rainey, 10: “I really don’t know why some people die before others, but the important thing is not what age you are when you die. It’s whether Jesus lives in your heart. If he does, you’ll live with Jesus in heaven forever.” Rainey wrote this only a few months before she and her sister, Lacey Lipscomb, 8, went home to be with their Lord in a train crash in Bour- bonnais, Illinois, on March 15, 1999. Ten-year-old Rainey God Exists! By Charles Harris Pastor, Beattie Road Church of Christ Is there a God? That is a question that must be answered! But it cannot be answered based upon personal opinions or feelings on the matter, for that is completely subjective (and thus, in the end, unreliable). Obviously, not everyone believes in God. But what does the evidence show? Would it surprise you to know that the evi dence for the existence of God is absolutely overwhelming? Consid er it for yourself. What is the only reasonable conclusion to the follow ing lines of testimony? First, consider the “Law of Cause and Effect.” Basically, this states “every material effect must have an ade quate cause that existed before the effect.” If you found your house crumbled to the ground, you could not blame it on the mosquito that you found flying over the de bris. That would not be an adequate cause. Some thing quite substantial would have to cause that to happen. Would that also be true of our universe? Do you know that there are over 100 billion galaxies in our universe and each galaxy (like our Milky Way) has over 100 bil lion stars in it? Would a tiny ball of matter small er than a proton be able to “Bang” Big enough to adequately cause this massive, material universe that we cannot even completely see, yet alone explore? No, that would not be an ade quate cause! There must have been an original cause substantial enough to bring about the effect that is here. Second, consider the “Law of Biogenesis.” Basically, this states “life in the material universe comes from previous life of its own kind.” This has been proven over and over, and science itself has shown that life never arises except from life. It is evident that life is now here. (You are evidence that life is now here.) Where did it come from? It could not have come from non-life. (That’s what the Law of Biogenesis proves.) Therefore, the origin of life on earth points back to an original life-giver. Who (not what) could that be? Third, consider the “Law of Rationality.” Basically, this states “one must only draw and accept conclusions that are warranted by clear evidence.” Spe cifically, think about the matter of design. If there is design, that demands the conclusion that there is a designer. A watch demands a watchmaker. A painting demands a painter. The design that is evident in the earth, the universe and the human body is millions of times more complex than a watch or a painting. Chorus: It was their sacrifice, they chose this life. It was their sacrifice. Who shares the price? Who shares the price? Now Jesus went to Calvary for us at home and UPGs (Unreached People Groups) Salvation flowed from Calvary’s tree. Still there are those who’ve yet to see. He chose to die to set men free. So that they’ll know, He says, ‘Go ye.” Chorus: It was His sacrifice, He chose to die. It was His GOD and her sister didn’t expect to see Jesus so soon, but they were ready. They now know more than ever the im portance of having trust ed the Lord Jesus with their eternal destiny. Think about this: None of the people who went to work at the World Trade Center or the Pentagon on September 11, 2001 expected it to be their last day on earth. The Bible is clear that today is the day of salvation. Memorize this truth: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). It is not rational to state that the intricate design around us is not by design! see Harris, page 5B sacrifice. Who’ll share the price? Who’ll share the price? It was His sacrifice, He chose to die.
