SGTC Inducts New Members into Honor Society

South Georgia Tech
nical College (SGTC)
recently inducted three
new members into the
college’s chapter of
the National Technical
Honor Society (NTHS)
in recognition of the
students’ outstanding
academic achievement.
The ceremony was held
in the John M. Pope
Industrial Technology
Center on the Americus
campus.
The students honored
with induction into the
NTHS were Brandon
Laethem of Vienna (prep
cook), Alonza Thomas of
Cordele (cosmetology),
and Lisa Pate of Smith-
ville (cosmetology).
In presenting the
inductees, SGTC mathe
matics instructor Chester
Taylor listed the seven
attributes all members
of the NTHS share in
common: responsibility,
scholarship, skill, hon
esty, citizenship, leader
ship, and service.
“We hope you recog
nize these seven attri
butes in yourselves,”
Taylor said to the
inductees, “and value
these qualities which
make you eligible for
membership in the Na
tional Technical Honor
Society.”
During the ceremony,
a purple candle was lit
to represent each of the
seven attributes, and a
white candle was lit to
represent the guiding
light of knowledge.
After the lighting of
the candles, Taylor pre
sented to each honoree
a certificate commemo
rating their inductions.
The new members of
the honor society then
recited the NTHS pledge

Attend the Fall Rally in Perry

On October 10, 2019,
the Future Business
Leaders of America
(FBLA) chapter from
Lee County High
School, Lee County 9th
Grade Campus, and Lee
County Middle School
East and West Cam
puses attended the Fall
Motivational Rally in
Perry, Georgia. FBLA is
a student organization in
the Career and Technical
fields with an emphasis
on Business. Any stu
dent who is interested in
the business, computer
science, or marketing re
lated fields are welcome
to join by paying club
dues. FBLA’s mission
is to bring business
and education together
in a positive working
relationship through
innovative leadership
and career development
programs.
The combined Lee
County group of over 85
FBLA members were
able to fellowship with
other FBLA members
from across the state as
well as listen to an en
ergetic and inspirational
guest speaker. At the
Fall Motivational Rally,
LCHS FBLA participat
ed in the Chapter T-shirt
Competition. Upcoming
events for the FBLA
members include the
FBLA State Fall Leader
ship Conference, Region
Skills Testing, Region
Competition Testing,
the State Leadership
Conference and Compe
tition, and the National
Leadership Conference.
