Witness the Honorable JAMES W. SIZEMORE JR. Judge of Said Court. This 22 day of November, 2019. James W. Sizemore Jr., Judge of Lee County Superior Court Dec. 4, 11 & 18 Soul Food from the Hood by Keith Hood Sustainability. Is life sustainable? One of the driving principles of the millenni al gener ation is for things to not only be function- able, but they must also be sustain able. They think in terms of recycling, clean energy and renewable energy. Many of these millennials are living in mortal fear. They have been convinced that the world is doomed because of man-made global warming. Even the United Nations Chief said recently, the plan et faces a “point of no return.” Alas. At least we’ve made it past the 1980s when the first prophets of global warming doom warned all would liter ally be toast. Speaking of toast: Here’s to one more Auld Lang Syne! But just so these global alarmists can hate it when they’re right, the Bible says a little about global warming, too. “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.” (II Peter 3:10) But it does seem to be a sudden thing. I in tend to contin ue to ride my pickup truck with no carbon footprint guilt. After all, the United Nations Chief along with A1 Gore fly chartered and private Jets. They do not scoot-a-poot in Priuses. Nevertheless, this earth is a bust! What to do?!! “Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, accord ing to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.” (II Peter 3:11-13) That’s a pretty grim prospect for the YOLOs (You Only Live Once). Why even bother about the next generation if this is all there is? Peggy Lee had a propo sition: “If that’s all there is my friends, then let’s keep dancing. Let’s break out the booze and have a ball. If that’s all there is.” It is my surmise that a lot of this sustainability Keith Hood passion comes from the need for eternal life. It’s life they want to sustain. Jesus had more than booze to offer. “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundant ly.” (John 10:10) Jesus was speaking to a wom an at well drawing wa ter. He introduces her to this sustainable life, eternal life. “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a foun tain of water springing up into everlasting life.” (John 4:13-14) Life sus tained, life sustainable. Jesus moves from drink to food. “And Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall not hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.” (John 6:35) As Obama offered “Obama Care,” Jesus offers “Jesus Care.” “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Lather ex cept through Me.” (John 14:6) You can trade your doctor for the Great Phy sician. Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead to pay the penalty for our sins and to purchase a place in heaven for us—life sustainable. All we have to do is trust Him for what He did and trust Him as our Lord and Savior. “Lor God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have ever lasting life.” (John 3:16)
