On June 22, the Lee
County Board of Com
missioners voted to
appoint George Houston
to fill the vacant seat on
the Lee County Board
of Elections and Regis
tration. Mr. Houston’s
appointment is for the
next two years. On July
23, Mr. Houston was
sworn into office by
Judge Gahring.
The Lee County Board
of Elections and Regis
tration is made up of five
members. Two members
are appointed by the
Republican Party, two
by the Democratic Party,
and one by the County
Commissioners. The
Board meetings are gen
erally held on the second
Tuesday of each month at
9:00 am in the Elections
Office at 100 Starksville
Avenue North, Suite C in
Leesburg.
George Houston has
been a resident of Lee
County for almost two
decades. He and his
wife, Jay Houston have
been married for over
18 years. They have six
beautiful kids together
who all attend Lee Coun
ty Schools. Mr. Houston
works at Zaxby’s as the
District Manager. Mr.
Houston loves volunteer
ing with the Boy Scouts
of America and coaching
football with the Lee
County Warriors.

Alumni Program
Committee is proud to
announce the selection
of the seven recipients
of the 2021 LCHS
Distinguished Alumni
Award.
The purpose of this
program is to recognize
outstanding alumni who
have maintained a high
standard of excellence
and distinguished them
selves through their
work, personal accom
plishments, or in the
Katrina Baranko of
Lee County, Georgia,
was elected to a one-
year term as vice presi
dent of Kiwanis Interna
tional at a June special
meeting held in lieu of
the 2021 Kiwanis Inter
national Convention. She
was elected as a trustee
of Kiwanis International
in 2018. Katrina will
serve as president of
Kiwanis International in
2023-24.
Katrina has served on
the Membership Com
mittee, the Service and
Partnership Committee,
Vice Chair of the Audit
and Finance Committee
and Chair of the Lead
ership Development and
Education Committee.
Katrina has been a
member of Kiwanis for
28 years and served the
Kiwanis Club of Albany
as distinguished presi
dent and secretary. She
also has served as mem
bership chair and as a
member of the board of
directors. At the district
level, Katrina was a
distinguished governor,
lieutenant governor, a
member of the finance
lives of others. These
individuals exemplify
the ideals of the Lee
County School System
and the community it
serves, and serve as role
models for current and
future Lee County High
School students.

Southeast Area and the
Georgia District.
In her community,
Katrina has been a
member of the boards
of directors of the
Homecoming Parade,
they will be honored
at a banquet at The
Bindery at Oakland
Library. Tickets will
go on sale to the public
in August. On Friday,
they will visit and speak
with students in the Lee
County School System.
On Friday evening,
they will be recognized
on the field during the
Homecoming pregame
festivities.

named Junior Women’s
Club Family of the
Year, Georgia Business
Teacher of the Year and
Future Business Lead
ers of America Advisor
of the Year. She is the
owner of Merle Norman
Cosmetics and Gifts in
Albany, Georgia.
She holds a bachelor’s
degree in education
from the University of
Georgia and a master’s
degree in education
from Georgia State
University.
She and her husband,
David, have one son,
daughter-in-law and one
grandson.

Lee County Elementary
School’s Teacher of the
Year. Mrs. Webb will
represent her school
and colleagues this
upcoming school year
during the district’s
selection process for
System Teacher of the
Year. She has been
teaching for 21 years
and has a specialist
degree in elementary
education from Georgia
Southwestern Univer
sity.
Mrs. Webb is ded
icated to providing
students with the best
learning experiences
in a kind and caring
atmosphere. With her
extensive knowledge
in ELA, she serves as
a mentor for others and
is an active contribu
tor to her professional
learning community.
“Her willingness to
help” resonated with
each nomination sub
mitted for Mrs. Webb.
Mrs. Webb has an
excitement to learn new
teaching strategies, an
enthusiasm to teach all
of her students, and an
eagerness to assist her
colleagues.
She has been married
to her husband Cliff
for 21 years. They have
two children Averie and
Josie.
