“Erin Meyer is the
daughter of Zeb and Les
lie Meyer. Erin has been
swimming with the Lee
County swim program
for 7 years. Her favorite
swim team memory is
definitely not what most
would consider a favorite
memory. Her favorite
memory is from a meet
in Thomasville where
Erin ran into the wall of

the pool and got a con
cussion while doing the
backstroke. This is her
favorite memory because
she can look back on it
and laugh. Erin plans to
attend Troy University
and major in nursing. She
hopes to one day become
a Trauma Surgeon.
“Alison Milsapps is
the daughter of Patrick
and Elizabeth Mil
sapps. Alison has been
swimming with the Lee
County swim program
for 5 years. Her favorite
memory from her time
on the swim team is
thinking about going to
her first swim meet with
the team. Alison will
attend a 4-year univer
sity and plans to major
in computer science and
business. Additionally,
she is a member of the
Beta Club, Art Club, and
FCA. She and her twin
sister even started an
art club for the students
with special needs at Lee
County High. It is called
the Mona Lisa Smile
Club.
“Josh Strickland is the
son of Jennifer Strick
land. Josh began swim
ming with the Darton
AquaDarts when he was
five years old. He has
swam competitively ever
since, including seven
years for Lee County. His
favorite swim memory
is being told during his
sophomore year when
he was anxious about
swimming the 500 free
to “have a heart-to-heart
with yourself”. He still
does that to this day
before every swim meet.
Josh plans to attend
Kennesaw State Univer
sity in the fall where he
will pursue a degree in
nursing.
“Olivia is the daughter
of Joey and Kelly Yawn.
She has been swimming
with the Lee County
swim program for 7
years. She has been a
member of the girl’s state
qualifying relay team
for the past two seasons.
Olivia leads her team as a
team captain this season.
Olivia is also a member
of the Blue Tide Swim
Team. One of her favorite
swim memories is when
her relay team qualified
for state last year here
at their home pool. She
plans on attending the
University of Georgia
and majoring in Adver
tisement. She is also the
DECA Vice President
of Leadership and is a
member of the National
Honors Society, Beta
Club, and National Tech
nical Honors Society.
“Eva Wessels is the
daughter of Kurt and
Erica Wessels. Eva has
been swimming for
Lee County since 7th
grade when she moved
to Georgia and also
swims with the Blue Tide
Club Team. During the
22-23 swim season, Eva
served as co-captain and
this season she does an
excellent job leading the
Lee County Trojan Swim
Team as their captain.
For the past two seasons,
she has been a member
of the state qualifying
state relay team. They
are headed back to the
State Championship in
February! Outside of
swimming and academ
ics, Eva is very active
with FFA. Her achieve
ments run from local
to State and National
involvement. She’s also
active in DECA, Beta
Club, and National Honor
Society. Eva is a mem
ber of First Methodist
of Albany. She has been
accepted to UGA and
plans to major in Applied
Biotechnology and looks
forward to working in the
animal pharmaceutical
industry.”
The Lee County Swim
team will miss these
seniors for all they con
tribute to the team, but it
will be exciting to watch
them all positively add to
our community in their
own way.
The Lee County Invi
tational was a busy and
competitive meet. Each
event and heat brought
a wonderful amount of
competition and show
cased swimmers doing
what they love.

Sophia Mattos of Albany
Awarded Degree from UA
Special to the Ledger
Sophia Mattos of Al
bany, GA, has received
the following degree
from The University of
Alabama: Bachelor of
Arts.
A recent economic
analysis found that a
degree from The Uni
versity of Alabama can
pay more over time than
investments in United
States stock market
indexes.
As the state’s largest
higher education institu
tion, UA drives econom
ic growth in Alabama
and beyond.
