William (Bill) Holt
Tomlin
William Holt Tomlin
(Bill), 91, of Lee County,
GA, passed to his heav
enly home Tuesday, May
14, 2024.
His funeral service
was on Tuesday, May 28,
2024 at Kimbrell-Stern.
Interment followed at
Floral Memory Gardens.
He was born July 6,
1932 In Parrott, GA to
Henry Luther and Alice
Harbuck Tomlin. Raised
in Parrott and Richland,
GA, he graduated from
Richland High School
May 1950.
After graduation, he
moved to Albany where
he took a job as an
electrician’s apprentice at
Georgia Electric Com
pany. In March 1952 Bill
enlisted in the United
States Navy. During
four years of active
duty as an electrician’s
mate he served on the
USS Safeguard based in
San Diego, CA and the
USS Hitchiti out of San
Francisco. His Naval
career on cutter ships
took him to the North
Pole, Hawaii, Korea, and
Japan. Bill said his days
in the Navy were some
of the happiest days in
his life. After 4 years of
active duty he served an
additional four years in
the Navy Reserve.
Bill took his skills and
training to the private
sector. As an electrician
be began his career at
Smith-Gray Electric
Company in Alba
ny. First, he rewound
electric motors and later
became shop foreman.
Then he and his nephew
established B&L Elec
tric Service. Bill said, “I
don’t know how many
million miles of copper
wire ran through these
fingers.” He continued
ownership, managing,
and operating the busi
ness into his eighties.
Bill was a hard worker,
yet he still found time
to design and build his
own home. He and a
dear friend, Larry Bevis
made that happen. After
the Great Flood of 1994
in Albany he rebuilt that
home and a second home
by Lake Blackshear even
building all the cabinetry
himself. He did all the
inside wood finish work
including laying wood
and tile flooring. Of
course, he wired those
homes.
His next passion be
came organic gardening
and learning to play the
violin and guitar. He
absolutely made the most
out of every single day.
Bill’s greatest passion
was his love for the Lord
and the time he spent
daily to Bible study and
Bible verse memoriza
tion.
He was preceded in
death by his parents, his
sisters, and brothers-in-
law Madie and Lamont
Parr, Dorothy and Alvin
Everson, Sr. Also, his
nephew Larry Parr.
His survivors include
his niece, Donna Brown
(Ricky), Albany, and his
nephew, Alvin Everson,
Jr. (Karen), Kennesaw,
GA. Also remaining
are numerous great and
great-great nieces and
nephews. Also, special
friends and neighbors
Harold and Sandy West.
Many thanks to all his
caregivers, especially
