The Led County Ledger Your Hometown Source Of Local News Hometown Newspaper of Jerry and Sandra Lokev Volume XLVI- Number 36 Leesburg, Georgia - - June 5, 2024 Fifty Cents Salutatory Address: Autumn McSwain Special to the Ledger Hello everyone! I am Autumn McSwain, the salutatorian for the 2024 graduating year. As we walk across this stage today to receive our diplomas, I would like all of us to acknowledge the journey that we have taken to bring us to this moment. It is important to remember that even though all of us have come from different beginnings, ev eryone has worked with the same goal of being able to walk across this stage today. As the au thor Mary Shelley once stated, “The beginning is always today” and our graduating class has aspired to achieve even through the adversities we have faced. Our first challenge came in ninth grade with a flurry of desk shields, hand sanitizer from a bottle, and hybrid virtual school. While Covid may not have affected our experience in high school predom inantly, its effects have still subtly guided our class into having to create a new routine for high school. With our covid experience in ninth grade, coming to the tenth grade at the main campus was definitely daunting for most if not all students. Especially for the virtu- Autumn McSwain where people began to move into leadership positions in extracur- riculars or even start a job. Junior year is full of responsibilities, and oftentimes that can be difficult. However, not a sin gle person A in this graduat ing class today let these difficul ties stop them from doing great things. Everyone worked for a better tomorrow and made it through junior year regardless of how difficult it may have been. Then we finally made it to senior year. We were finally able to begin to get some recognition for all of the hard work everyone has taken to make it to today. As a class, we are only now beginning to understand our potential andimportance in shap ing the future. Looking around today, nobody is the same as the people that I used to know prior to high school or even ninth grade. We are who we are today because of the choices we have made and because of our determination to never give up, and I am glad to be able to call this group of people my peers. All of us are about to begin a new chapter in our lives. Whether that is the military, college, it happened.” We have supported one another to success for the last four years and now it is time to move forward. As we move into the summer, be grateful for the people around you and your family but also look forward to a new beginning. While it may seem scary now, every one in this graduating class has the capability to be more than them selves and strive to do great things. Congratulations to every single graduate for making it here. Let’s keep striving to do even greater things as we move forward from this moment. LCES’s Teacher of the Year Congratulations to Lee County Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Trisha Haynes. Trisha is a ray of sunshine. She is loved by her students and her peers. Then everyone realized why 11th grade is known as the most difficult year of our high school. Everyone had to take standardized tests. This is also the year 8 10499 02456 8 or even just a gap year. As we prepare to move on to the next chapter of our lives, we cannot forget to reflect on these past four years. Looking around today I see so many faces that I may never see again and that is the bittersweetness of graduation. All of us are about to embark on new adventures with only the memories of these past few years with the friends we have today. A quote I’ve heard a lot in my life goes something like “don’t be sad that it’s over, but be happy Lee County Public Works is thankful for the County Commission and County Manager for allowing them to hold the recent Public Works Open House Day. It was a pleasure to exhibit not only the trucks and machines, but also the hard working employees at the recent event. Public Works is thankful for the families who joined them to learn more about Public Works, how they operate, and how each worker is essential to have a job well done. They were excited to illustrate their specific roles to their loved ones, as they believe that taking pride in their work promotes a positive atmosphere. They look forward to holding future events in the community! 12 Permits Issued For New Homes DOHERTY, DUGGAN, HART&TIERNAN INSURORS Home • Auto • Business • Life/Health P.O.Box 71628 (229)888-2040 Albany, GA 31708-1628 800-628-2040 2301 Dawson Road (31707) Fax (229) 435-3036 www.ddhtins.com Juneteenth Parade will be Saturday, June 15th starting at 10:00 a.m. in downtown Leesburg on Main Street.
