Mr. Melville Hanna, his mother, Mrs. Hanna and sister Miss Hanna, leave to-day in a special ear for their home, in Cleveland, Ohio. They have been the guests of Mr, J. Wyman Jones, at his charming home, “Elso- ma.” The Electric Light Plant. As soon as the party that will have charge of the constuction of the plant reaches Thomasville, active work will begin. This will be within a few weeks at furthest. Called Away. Sheriff Hurst was called away by a telegram Sunday morning. He went as companion and guard to an unfor tunate gentlemen from Columbus who had lost his reason. A Letter from Home. When you go away to spend the summer the Timks-Entekprise will be a daily letter from home, full of lo cal news and happenings. Leave your address at the .business office when you leave town. Home Again. Mr. George Fcarn returned Sunday night from an extensive tour through upper Georgia-alrd North Alabama and Tennessee.' He visited Knoxville, Chattanooga, Birmingham, Tuscaloosa and other poiuts. . He had’a pleasant trip, and found the sections he visited booming. New Machinery. Mr. George W. Henderson, super intendent of the Tho tmsville Guano Company, lias returned from a trip to Cinci.iuati and Dayton, Ohio, where he went to buy improved machinery to be used in the cotton seed oil de partment of the business. This new machinery will he iu place by another season. With Heavier Rails. The Savannah, Florida & Western Railway will begin at once to put down 70 pound rails between Savan nah and Jacksonvil'c. This part of the road is now laid with 60 pound rails.. The track between Wnycross and Albany and Chattahoochee will be laid with 60 pound rails, 10 pounds heavier than those now in use. The track of the S., F. & W. is already one of the best in the South, and when these improvements are made it will he without exception tho best. “Paradise Park.” The lease and option of purchase by the city of tins splendid piece of property expires with the year. Cen tral Pa k nnd the other public grounds of New York are called the lungs of the' city. While Thomasville is not so closely built as New York, it is necessary that Paradise Park he pre served as a park. It has given lungs back to many nn invalid visitor, and nothing in or about the city has fur nished so much pleasure to our guests. Mayor Hopkins will order an elec tion some time during the summer to authorize the isnie of bonds to pay for this park. Tho Columbus Southern. Yesterday morning the Enquirer- Sun spread the good news that the last doubt of the building of the Co lumbus Southern railroad had been dispelled. This road will now be rapidly pushed to completion. It will he a splendid outlet for Columbus, and will place us in close connection with one »t the most splendid sections of Georgia. The importance of the building of the Columbus Southern r ilroad cannot be over-estimated. Keep your eye on the Columbus Southern,—Enquirer-Sun. Albany would be a good point, with its half dozen railroads, for Thomasville to hitch on to with an other new liue of road. The Thomasville Times and the Thomasville Enterprise have consoli dated, which was a very sensible thing to do. Both were good papers, but each was seriously iu the others way. Now there is a future for the Time8-Enterfri.sk. Wc wish it abundant success.—Valdosta Times. A Letter. Mr. W. E. Watte, the clever pro prietor of the Miller House, received the following letter a few days ago, which he has kindly allowed us to cony. We do this to show our people what a reputation this popular house is making with the traveling public. Here is the letter: Mr. If. E. Watts, Boston, Oa,: Kind and Respected Friend—For the love of the human race, and es pecially the ‘•drummer” part of the family of living beings, please do not recommend any one else to go to the house, of Thomasville. We followed vrnr couucilings and are wiser, if not tetter, men. If that is worth $2 a day, yours is worth 86. They have the toughest beef, most unaccommodating landlord and clerk and “no good” porters. This is from one of your best friends, but. one of the most disgusted of house patrons. Yours with the kindest regards and lots of nnftic, I am Geo. A. Let ford. Mr. Letford is a member of the firm of H. E. Bucklin & Co., of Chi cago, a large medicine house. The house referred to is one of the most prominent in our sister city. We take the above from the Bcston AYorld, of Saturday. Mr. George A. Letford appears to be a very particular sort of a gentle man. We luve no doubt that Mr. Watts keeps a good house—every one says lie docs—but Mr. Letford will hardly make any one believe that Thomasville hotels are noted for “un accommodating latidlordaand clerks.” On the contrary, Tbomasville’s hotels boast—and justly so—of not only ex cellent fare, but accommodating land, lords and clerks. We may venture, without entering the domain of doubt, the assertion that the. Chicago gentle man got aivay with 82 worth of victuals at the hotel in Thomasville where he stopped. One line of railroad in the absolute control of the city ot Albany, would be worth a dozen run by foreign cor porations. It would be a lever by which we could pry ourselves over the feuce into the laud of brightest promise. The above front the News and Ad vertiser sounds the key-note to the situation in Thomasville, as well as Albany. And our people are begin ning to appreciate the situation. The Thomasville Daily Times and the Thomasville Daily Enterprise have been merged into one, and will hereafter appear as the Timcs-Entcr. prise. Now you can look out for lively daily.—Darien Gazette. One of Quitman’s best posted law yers remarket the oth»r day that there were cases enough now before Brooks Superior Court to keep the court in session for two solid months it all of the cases were tried. This amount of litigation in a county of the size of Brooks is not ail enviable showing. The two weeks of cou't just held have heeu a heavy burden on the county and will make a big hole in the surplus iu the treasury.— Quitman Free Press. Without meaning to draw any in vidious comparison, it is gratifying to record tho fact that Thomas county, as a rule, gets through all her crimi nal and civil business in one week ; frequently in less time. Too much litigation in a county is not- good. Thomas comity has ns little as any county in the State, according to pop- i lation. Attempted Assassination. Dick Watkins, a negro, wna shot and badly wounded on the Dr. Jones plantation, six miles from the city, Sunday night, by some unknown per son. He was sitting in his cnbin singing and conversing with his fami ly when the shot was fired. Quite a number of shots took effect in the neck and upper portion of tho body. A physician from here was sent lor. The wound is considered dangerous, LATER, Dr. T. M. McIntosh, who went out to see the wounded man, reports that two buckshot struck the right lung. One passed entirely ^trough the luny, the other penetrated the lung. Two shot entered the neck and came out in his mouth. Three entered the back of the neck and ranged forward. Dr, McIntosh considers the wounds dan gerous, especially those in the lungs. Remedies. My boy, who when one year of age, was so baa with eczema that he lost all nls hair. Hissnalp was covered with eruptions, which the doctors said was scald head, and that his hair would nevergrow again. The entertainment was given at the summer residence of Mr. II. B. Cassels, of this city. One hundred people wore present. Among those from Savannah was Mr. II. C. Davis. He was a guest of Mr. Cas- sels. Ho reports a most enjoyable time. The programme was excep tionally line and considerable musical talent has been developed aaong its members.—News.
